[Colorado-Talk] CABS Meeting Next Friday 13th

My name is Cynthia Coffin. I am the new Colorado Association of Blind
Students Division President. We are having are next meeting on Friday the
13th of December at 7:00 oclock pm. for students who are interested in
joining. Bonnie Barlow who  is an audio description specialist  is joining
us as our guest speaker on the call. Bonnies  bio will be listed below. We
will also discuss about fundraising ideas  for this upcoming year. We would
love to have students join the call.  We are switching our calls to zoom
which has to be downloaded on to a computer or other devises. Here is the

About Bonnie

I am an audio describer for the blind for television, movies, live theater
and other events. Audio Description is narration of the visual elements of
a program that are not apparent to one who is only listening. During pauses
in the dialogue, a describer uses brief descriptions to help the blind
patron follow the plot. The blind audience member wears a headset. The
describer is in a booth with a transmitter.



Since 1992 I have done description of live plays in the Denver, Colorado
area. I was trained by Alan Woods of the Ohio Theatre Alliance. I have also
described other events such as ballet, opera, the rodeo and art exhibits. I
have personally described over 250 plays and similar events. I have trained
other describers. I have written descriptions of exhibits for Access Days
for People With Disabilities for the Denver Art Museum.



I also write description scripts for television shows and movies. The blind
patron tunes their audio option to SAP - secondary audio programming - to
hear description if it is provided with a program. Some of the shows I
write description for are ABC's Black-ish, Modern Family, The Middle and
Secrets and Lies. Netflix descriptions for animated series Masha and the
Bear. I wrote description for the movie Mr. Holmes starring Ian McKellan.



I describe live theater for the Denver Center Performing Arts -- the Buell
and Space/Stage/Ricketson theaters.  See the DCPA website for accessible
dates in addition to checking my schedule for the shows I personally will
be describing and other events to be described.  There are new things in
