Hello Steve and Shannon,
I imagine that everyone has their own opinion! I want to let you know how much I love hearing about our South Carolina family and very much appreciate you sharing what is happening with us! WE are all definitely one family and it does not matter where we live! I hope to come to the next South Carolina convention in a year. Thank you for sharing!

All my Best
Julie

Hi All,

Please forgive me for sending information out about the happenings here in SC to the Colorado list serve. I guess that saying about the NFB is one big family is not true. You are only family if your from the state where you are living.

Can we have this list just be for Colorado stuff? I don’t see the benefit of having South Carolina things on a Colorado mailing list. It’s just more junk mail to delete. If it’s applicable to many in the NFB, they’re ought to be a better general list to post these things to.

Memo To: Executive Officers, Board Members, Chapter & Division Presidents & Others
From: Jennifer Bazer, President
Positive Note 1776
Greetings Fellow Federationists:

What an awesome 64th convention of the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina held this past weekend! Our national representative was Everette Bacon, President of the National Federation of the Blind of Utah and member of the national Board of Directors. A huge thank you to those chapters, divisions, and individuals who contributed during our banquet fund-raiser Saturday night. We raised $10,000 through donations and pledges that will greatly help the NFB of SC. A huge shout out goes to the computer science and technology division (CSTD) for their assistance before and during the convention with zoom trainings and zoom hosting and of course, the entertaining “walk up” music. I want to thank all of you who actively participated in our state convention through your attendance. Much planning and behind the scenes work goes into holding a state convention, and it could not be possible without all of us working together.
Congratulations to the following officers who were elected to the NFB of SC board on Sunday.

              President: Jennifer Bazer
              First Vice President: Lenora Robertson
              Second Vice President: Debra Canty
              Secretary: Shannon Cook
              Treasurer: Valerie Warrington
              2nd District Representative: Steve Cook
              4th District Representative: JW Smith
              6th District Representative: Marty McKenzie
Member at Large Seat 1: Demetrius Williford
Member at Large Seat 2: Neal Sheth

Thank you to those who served on the board for the 2019-2020 year. I look forward to continued work with you. I want to thank Frank Coppel who led our affiliate for the past five years, and his wife Shelley Coppel who was always by his side in support. We are grateful for your commitment and dedication to our organization and look forward to your support as we begin a new leadership in South Carolina.
To all of you, thank you for entrusting me to lead this affiliate with integrity, commitment, passion and empathy. I welcome your ideas, thoughts, and suggestions. Please call, text or email me anytime about business or just to chat. I look forward to getting to know all of you better. Come walk beside me, and let’s go build a strong and large NFB affiliate in the palmetto state!
Let’s turn to upcoming news in the NFB:

              Locally:
Following the NFB of SC state board elections on Sunday, August 23, Frank Coppel was automatically taken off the Rocky Bottom Retreat and Conference Center of the Blind’s board, since stepping down as state president. The RBRCCB Board is in the process of filling the board chair seat. In the meantime, Vice Chair Ed Bible will be Acting Chair for the RBRCCB Board until the next scheduled meeting on Friday, September 4, 2020, when that will likely be decided. If you have any concerns or questions, please direct them to Mr. Bible during the next few days.

              Nationally:
Presidential Release #497 - Live
The September presidential release (#497) will be delivered live by NFB President Mark A. Riccobono. The monthly message provides important updates and perspectives of the organized blind movement.
Tuesday, September 1, 2020 | 8:00 p.m. ET
After the remarks, Pam Allen, first vice president, will moderate questions. Members of the Federation are encouraged to attend and non-members are warmly welcomed. Submit questions in advance to cdanielsen at nfb.org<mailto:cdanielsen at nfb.org> and put PR497 in the subject line, or call 410-659-9314, extension 2473.

NFB Pledge
I pledge to participate actively in the effort of the National Federation of the Blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind; to support the policies and programs of the Federation; and to abide by its constitution.

NFB One Minute Message
The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams.
