Greetings and salutations:

 

This email is aimed at those of you who use iPhones and find that restarting
the iPhone by holding down the side button for many seconds is a task that
you would rather not perform. The following instructions assume that you are
using VoiceOver.

 

1.      Go to Settings, > Accessibility, > Assistive Touch.

 

2.      Flick right with one finger to the Touch icon and perform a
one-finger double-tap.

 

3.      Flick right to Assistive Touch and perform a one-finger double tap.

 

4.      On the screen which then appears, Assistive Touch shows as being
off. Turn it on by performing a one-finger double tap.

 

5.      Now, flick right with one finger until you hear "Single Tap".
Perform a one-finger double tap.

 

6.      Flick right with one finger until you hear "restart". Perform a
one-finger double tap to activate this.

 

7.      Go back to your home screen. You should be able to find an assistive
touch icon in one of the corners of the screen, possibly the lower right
corner. You cannot flick to this Assistive Touch icon, unfortunately. You
need to slide your finger around to find it. I am told it looks like a brown
dot.

 

8.      If you perform a one-finger double tap on the Assistive Touch icon,
a restart dialog appears asking if you really want to restart the iPhone.
Double Tap restart, and the automatic recycle will proceed.

 

For me, using the Assistive Touch icon to restart my iPhone makes restarting
a breeze.
