[Colorado-Talk] Fwd: Westbound traffic on WCR 34 over I-25 to open next week

I forwarded an email to Colorado Talk concerning the issue on I-25 near Loveland.  Here is an update on the bridge repair on WCR-34.

I did encounter a delay in the northbound and southbound lanes a couple weeks ago; I was unable to travel to Wyoming this weekend so I do not know if traffic is still in this area.  Those traveling via I-25 in this area may wish to prepare for any delays.

Westbound traffic on WCR 34 over I-25 to open next week

NORTHEAST COLORADO -- The Colorado Department of Transportation will open one-way westbound traffic on Weld County Road 34 over I-25 the week after Labor Day on the bridge that was struck on Aug. 8.

The timing of the opening will be based on when signs, barricades and more can be put in place to direct the traffic.

The bridge was hit around 6 p.m. on Aug. 8 when a truck hauling an overheight excavator traveling northbound struck the WCR 34 overpass bridge on I-25. The bridge sustained debilitating damage to the bridge beams.

Interstate traffic was closed until 4 a.m. the next day, until CDOT bridge experts determined traffic was safe to travel under the bridge. CDOT bridge crews have been assessing the damage and have determined the structural integrity of the bridge can support one lane of traffic to connect westbound travelers on WCR 34 across I-25.

Crews have had to move I-25 traffic at night to the on- and off- ramps several times since the crash to install netting, pave and do other work to open the bridge to traffic.

The next stage of the repairs will take place over the next two months to get the bridge repaired to accommodate two-way traffic as it did before the crash. Be sure to check Cotrip.org<http://cotrip.org/> to see when delays are scheduled.
