I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Karen. Gary wrote such a beautiful and fitting tribute to her. During my time on the Denver chapter board I always looked forward to collaborating with Karen on behalf of the Mile High chapter. Her and I often spoke about fundraising collaborations, and it was always a pleasure to volunteer on the same shift as her at Barnes and Noble amidst the cheer of the downtown, Denver holiday spirit! I appreciated the genuine, caring and fun nature that Karen consistently brought to our community.

My thoughts and prayers are going out to her family and loved ones.

Karen’s family states plans for a celebration of life are pending. We will keep you informed. Karen’s mother Margret would appreciate any prayers and thoughts you can offer; you may contact Margret at m7j4s12 at gmail.com.

>> Karen joined the NFB many years ago. She graduated from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. She resided many years in the Chicago Land area and moved to Colorado to attend CCB. Karen was a fixture when the Mile High Chapter and other chapters raised money wrapping gifts during the Holidays at Barnes and Noble. One could count on Karen to engage people with her cheerful smile and voice. I often heard Karen engaging the customers in conversation concerning the books and other gifts she wrapped. So many people would return each year so Karen could wrap their gift. Karen was one of the founding members of the Mile High Chapter. She would serve as our Treasurer for several years and I can easily say she was a fantastic treasurer. We shall miss Karen very much. She was a kind person who easily engaged in conversation and cared deeply for the NFB.
