Greetings friends and colleagues,
Monday, February 12, 1 PM, NFBCO Day at the Capital
More details to come. This year we are working with members of the general
assembly to promote four initiatives of great importance to Colorado
citizens. We need your presence and support.
On Monday, February 12 we will be circulating through the capital complex to
educate members of the general assembly and their staff about the
legislative priorities of blind and low vision Coloradans. Each team will be
gathering around one at predesignated places and we will plan to begin
visiting the offices of members of the general assembly by 1:30. We will
visit members of the general assembly in teams of approximately 5-10 people.
There will be 2 experienced captains for each team. Each team will have
briefing packets to distribute to each legislative office. Please register
now by reaching out to Dan Burke NFBCO legislative chair. You can email Dan
at dburke at cocenter.org. You can also reach him 303-778-1130. It is important
that we hear from those who plan to attend so that Dan can match team
captains with teams. What a great way to be involved in the democratic
process.
Important! The legislative committee will be holding two Zoom briefings to
discuss logistics, detail the issues, and answer questions. Please try to
attend one of these briefings. The first will be held this Thursday,
February 8 at 6:30 PM. The second opportunity for an NFBCO day at the
capital briefing will be at noon, Superbowl Sunday! Zoom info at the
conclusion of this email.
This year we will be highlighting our effort to protect services for the
deaf blind. We will be advocating for increased funding to expand our
project literacy and NFB Newsline services. We will be there to show support
for our bill to require most pharmacies to provide accessible prescription
labels. We will be asking the general assembly to convene hearings regarding
the denial of service by Uber and Lyft to those who use service dogs.
There will be more details to come. Please join us for one of the briefings.
Please join us at the capital and urge your members and friends to be part
of the change. It's important work, we need everyone. Your imagination,
energy, capacity, and heart are necessary to move our agenda forward. Please
also let us know if you have a relationship with your member of the general
assembly that can be helpful.
So, we will talk to you Thursday at 6:30 or Sunday at noon over Zoom and we
will see you mid-day Monday under the golden dome. Dress in your finest
business/business casual attire. But wear comfortable shoes. Rember you can
always grab a quick lunch at Nates. He has got a nice BEP location there and
of course, he is a member of our legislative committee.
