[Colorado-Talk] DIA Accessibility

Tim,

I think Curtis has been our principal activist with regard to DIA resolutions. He made a valiant effort to make it possible for ride-share drivers to pick up people with disabilities at a more accessible location. There was positive action around that effort. However, it faced some challenges, mostly of a technical nature I think. Curtis can update. I also think that maybe our DIA contact who was very committed to our efforts may be gone.

I'm wondering if we should put together an airport accessibility task force. The Colorado Springs airport is making great strides in this area.

Parenthetically, I used to find DIA the very best, easy-to-travel airport in the nation. Certainly, that's because it's the one I got used to, frequently flying through there for many years. However given all the major construction, much of it has been ongoing over the last few years. It's not the idyllic blind travel experience it used to be.

Hello Tim:

I don't know what is planned in terms of wayfinding technology for the blind, but I do know that the Denver International Airport is an Aira free zone, meaning that none of your minutes are used if you use Aira at the airport.

Kindly,

Curtis Chong

Hi, all,
I was intrigued by this little slice of an article I read in the Denver Post about a bill to improve accessibility at DIA:
Before it was amended, the bill provided grounds for potential lawsuits if the airport failed to meet several deadlines that are still set out in the legislation. Those include installing wayfinding technology to serve people who are blind or vision impaired by the middle of this year;

Say what? Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,
Tim
