[Colorado-Talk] DIA Accessibility

Aira contract is not with the state. The City and County of Denver owns that.

So we as the state wouldn’t apply Rules.

Unless I’m out of the loop on something regarding the Rules! 😝

The devil will be in the details, of course, because the state rules have to be crafted and published. By some definitions, Aira would be considered wayfinding technology an d thus DIA would already be in compliance.

BTW, there's no way the rules will be ready for a good while.

Dan

I use Aria at DIA and many other airports. Now you got me curious! Wayfinding technology often means many different things. I wonder what the aspiration is for this project. I know that SFO has received a lot of acclaim for the work the San Francisco Light House and its partners have done. But I haven't flown through there since before pandemic. Again, maybe we need a little group to dig into this a little bit. I’m going to reach out to COS airport director today as a follow-up here.

Looks like it could be something by a company called Lazarillo, which won a SmartCities competition last year. Sounds a lot like GoodMaps, which I found pretty helpful in Louisville's airport a couple years a go.

That’s great! It says it’s supposed to be operational by the middle of the year. Supposed to be. 😊

I’m flying in late July and again in late August, so naturally, I’m super curious how this is going to work.

I hope they’re bringing in blind travelers to help test it.

Thanks,

Tim

We absolutely included wayfinding as something that needed to be included in DIA accessibility.

Hello Tim:

I don't know what is planned in terms of wayfinding technology for the blind, but I do know that the Denver International Airport is an Aira free zone, meaning that none of your minutes are used if you use Aira at the airport.

Kindly,

Curtis Chong

Hi, all,

I was intrigued by this little slice of an article I read in the Denver Post about a bill to improve accessibility at DIA:

Before it was amended, the bill provided grounds for potential lawsuits if the airport failed to meet several deadlines that are still set out in the legislation. Those include installing wayfinding technology to serve people who are blind or vision impaired by the middle of this year;

Say what? Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,

Tim
