[Colorado-Talk] Looking for artifacts

Dear Fellow Coloradans

 

As many of you know, I have been working with the Colorado History Museum to
enhance their collection of artifacts that tell the story of the blind of
Colorado. A museum is different in that minutes and news articles are not
important, unless they back up the artifact.  

 

I am looking for more artifacts. With each artifact, I also submit
supporting documentation as to its importance to the blind, in particular,
Colorado.  I not only want the artifact, but the story behind it. We can
work on that when you get the artifact to me.

 

The NFBCO has already submitted two separate contributions of several items
and is working on a third. I have also connected the museum with the Library
for the Blind and they have made at least one contribution. That is to say,
that we have some of the obvious such as a braille and speak and a beep
ball.  But, don't assume, please let me know what you might have.

 

What is an artifact that we in the NFBCO are looking for to tell our
stories?

 

Here is a sample list of things we might contribute. If you have other
suggestions, please call me and we can talk. My phone number is
303-745-0473.

 

1.	The red button that was worn by our members at the state capitol
while we were promoting our parents' rights bill.
2.	Braille games like monopoly or scrabble. Not all the pieces need to
be there, but a majority of them for sure.
3.	Unusual slates and styluses. 
4.	Books brailled by the Red Cross in Colorado.
5.	Tactile maps.
6.	Brailled puzzles.
7.	Baskets, mats, or rugs made at the Colorado Industries for the
Blind.  I know that might be a stretch, but I can hope.
8.	Click rule, braille tape measure/ruler.
9.	Tactile art work made for or by a blind person.
