Elizabeth,

DVR is statewide, although blind and low vision service case workers are only in the metro area. There may be a splattering of a couple more along the Front Range, but they are not in the rural areas. Services are still available, although they are not readily available. I had to fight for tech training, but I did get what I needed and wanted. I still live in rural areas and have to be assertive, know what I want and need and don't take no for an answer. They closed the DVR office in my town, but they said if I needed anything, they would still assist, as needed.

Depending on where you are living, it depends on if you have a counselor that is trained in working with individuals that are blind. When I was in the mountains, I had continual issues with my rehab counselor. She never took my work for what I needed and would ask anyone else, even my tech trainer, if I need a particular thing or service. I knew what I needed best. 😊

My recommendation is be assertive and let them know exactly what you need. This tends to get more assistance. If you have anymore questions, I am happy to visit. I prefer to live in rural areas, therefore, there are less services, but it doesn't mean I am not eligible for services.

Take care,
ReNae

Hi all,

Does anyone know how likely DVR would help for any sort of housing while you’re in school and does it depend if they will help you or not based on what area of Colorado you want to live in?
Thanks
