At the time of this posting, 14 November 2024, we have a mother in our community that is seeking assistance and resources to help with her child being taken away from her.
She lives in Seattle Washington, works,
Has a 13 month old child and in a abusive relationship.
Recently, she has been arrested with a domestic violence charge.
Her child has been taken away from her.
And her abuser, is claiming she is an unfit mother due to her blindness.
She has hired a lawyer to defend her in her criminal and family court appearances.
What wshe looking for.
Any parent support groups that would be appropriate for her to meet locally or virtually.
Any resources or case history or precedence that would help her attorney in her court battles.
Disability advocates or disability advocate groups.
And of course, your thoughts, prayers and positive energy on her path through this difficult time.
The extra emotional kicker in the story, is that she’s diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa.
As we all know in this community, this is a degenerative vision loss disease.
So her blindness is a new diagnosis, and along with the diagnosis comes the realization that her vision is much worse than she ever thought.
To being a new mom, and having to learn what it is to be blind at the same time has been a very physically and emotionally challenging year.
If you respond directly to me, I will be happy to share her personal contact information.
Thank you in advance!
