Phase 2 Transition Between California and Welton Streets
[https://mcusercontent.com/fc34ba15e6547b8d998f63f6a/images/ff3840c5-cca2-ced2-d816-6a8537646392.jpg]
The shift to Phase 2 of construction between California and Welton Streets (Block 8) began Thursday, Oct. 24, and is expected to last approximately 3-4 months. This phase includes installing the new granite pavers on the sidewalks and will require a change in the fencing layout. Crews have begun to adjust the fence gradually to achieve the layout described below.
You can expect:
* The fence between California and Welton streets will enclose the north and south sidewalks, as well as part of the center transitway, for paver installation.
* Pedestrians will be routed to a walkway down the center transitway. Business access will be maintained through five-foot walkways extending from the center pedestrian walkway to business entrances on either side of 16th Street. See image above for a general example.
* This fencing configuration will move as work progresses, and five-foot walkways leading to businesses may be closed intermittently outside of business hours for work occurring in those areas. Business access will always be maintained while businesses are open.
* Wayfinding signage will be installed on the fencing to direct pedestrians to businesses.
* The intersection closure at California Street and the double-lane closure at Welton Street will remain in place.
Sawcutting & Demolition
This activity may be noisy at times as sawcutting and demolition breaks up the concrete slab, but the project team will stay within the City’s noise ordinance as we recognize we are working in close proximity to businesses and residents.
