Hello everyone:

We are less than two months away from our 2024 NFB of Colorado convention,
to be held October 24-26 at the Marriott Denver South at Park Meadows hotel
in Lone Tree, Colorado.

The National Federation of the Blind of Colorado is a membership
organization of blind people. The convention, being the supreme authority of
the organization, is the best forum in which to raise issues affecting the
blind, discuss these issues, and if necessary, adopt policies that determine
how we as an organization will deal with these issues. Resolutions are our
formal statements of policy and often set the stage for future actions of
the organization. In past years, our convention adopted resolutions which
resulted in laws being passed to protect the rights of blind parents and to
make it possible for blind registered voters in Colorado to vote accessibly,
privately, and independently using the nonvisual access technology of their
choice.

If you think there ought to be a law, that a law is unfair to blind people,
or if you think we should recognize the positive actions of some individual
or organization for good work that benefits the blind, you can write and
submit a resolution for the convention to consider. If you want to condemn
and deplore the actions taken by an organization or governmental entity, you
can write and submit a resolution about that, too.

Now I know that for a lot of us, writing resolutions seems to be something
that is complicated, tedious, and (yes) boring. Nevertheless, resolutions
are an important part of how we get things done in the National Federation
of the Blind of Colorado.

If you don't feel comfortable writing a resolution or if you just need a
little bit of help, you should know that Dan Burke and I are serving as
co-chairs of the Resolutions Committee this year. Either or both of us would
be glad to turn your resolution into its final form to be presented to the
Resolutions Committee at our upcoming convention. The Resolutions Committee
will meet on Friday morning, October 25. The committee will decide which
resolutions are to be passed on to be considered by the full convention on
Sunday, October 27. You must attend the Resolutions Committee meeting in
person in order for your resolution to be considered by the committee.

The deadline for submitting a resolution to the committee is Friday, October
18. This gives Dan Burke and me enough time to take care of finalizing the
text of your resolution and creating Braille and digital copies.
