Dear colleagues and friends,
Our good buddy, former principal at school for the blind, forwarded this exciting message to me and others from Molly Quinn. For those who don’t know, Miss Quinn is the executive director of the United States Association of Blind Athletes, USABA. You will note that ED Quinn continues to use the antiquated term visually impaired. Rather than the term blind, or blind and low vision, the community’s preferred terminology. Some habits are really hard for some professionals and executives in the vision industrial complex to break. This is especially true when some seem to hold our community in low esteem. That is they don’t promote, network or encourage support, engagement, and collaboration with the National Federation of the Blind and the broader community. All the above having been stated. It’s a true honor to have the national goalball tournament here in the Springs. We know that it takes many volunteers to support such a great event. Please do what you can to encourage possible volunteers, family, colleagues, and friends to reach out if they can work a few hours to support the tournament. I don’t know if there will be any kind of play-by-play available at the event or if it will be streamed. As you know, we in the NFB have quite a few buddies who enjoy goalball. Many who have been competitive at the highest level of the sport. Go USABA!! Go CSDB! Go Colorado!
At your service,

Subject: USABA Goalball National Championships on August 15-17 - Looking for Volunteers!
To: Jamie Lugo <jamie.lugo at d49.org<mailto:jamie.lugo at d49.org>>
Hi Jamie,
Here is the information on the upcoming event that we are looking for volunteers. Thank you for sharing across your networks!
On the behalf of the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes, we would like to extend the invitation for you to volunteer at the upcoming Goalball National Championships on August 15-17. This event is a cornerstone of our mission to empower visually impaired athletes and showcase their incredible talent, and an opportunity for you to experience the sport of Goalball firsthand. It's an honor to host athletes from across the nation as they compete at the highest level of Goalball.
The championships will be held at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB). This historic institution has been a beacon of education and support for students for over a century, making it an ideal partner for an event celebrating inclusivity and athletic excellence.
To ensure the success of this event, we rely on the dedication of volunteers like you. We are looking for individuals to be line judges where you will get an up close and personal view of all the action on the goalball court. Your contribution will directly impact the experience of our athletes and help us create an unforgettable championship.
* Please send this around to anyone interested in volunteering and spread the word of Goalball in Colorado Springs. Volunteer link for Goalball Nationals August 15-17<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DQ6LTD3>.
* All volunteers will receive t-shirt, refreshments, and a snack during their shifts. Beyond these small gestures, you'll be able to become a part of our community, connecting firsthand with our grassroots and Paralympic Goalball athletes- contributing directly to an event that truly changes lives and challenges perceptions.
This is a unique opportunity to support USABA's brand purpose of empowering blind athletes and to be part of a community that fosters self-confidence and promotes inclusivity in sports. Thank you for considering this vital role in supporting USABA, USA Goalball, and the remarkable athletes who inspire us all.
