In partnership with Atlantis Community, the Center for People with Disabilities, City and County of Denver's Disability Rights Division, Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition, Canine Partners of the Rockies, Phamaly Theatre Company, the Colorado Neurodiversity Chamber of Commerce, Metro University, Rocky Mountain ADA Center, and other valuable community partners, RTD invites you to 35 Years of Progress: ADA Past, Present, and Future, a community celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This event will be held on August 1, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Denver Downtown-Convention Center, 550 15th St, Denver, CO 80202. RSVP Here Celebrate 35 years of progress toward equity and justice for people with disabilities In 1990, the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law was a transformative moment in the fight for equality. The ADA expanded anti-discrimination protections and reshaped the built environment, making it more accessible to people with disabilities. This landmark legislation marked a crucial moment in the nation's journey, advancing equality, access, and justice for individuals with disabilities across the nation, its effects resonate widely, including in transportation equity, ensuring fair access to public transport and its associated opportunities for everyone. In the years leading up to the ADA's passage, as well as the decades that followed, the disability community in Denver has been at the forefront, advocating for their rights and independence. Their dedication has shaped the progress we see today. As we commemorate these significant milestones, RTD invites community members to join us in celebrating the 35th anniversary of the ADA, at an upcoming commemorative event. This event will feature the unveiling of a bus wrap design, created as part of the Bus Design Contest, honoring the continued fight for disability rights and inclusion. We encourage you to engage with our community partners and be part of this important conversation on equality and justice. Event Highlights: * Special Unveiling: Attendees will be the first to see the new bus wrap, commemorating the ADA's 35th anniversary, designed by the winner of our Bus Design Contest. * Unforgettable Panel: Watch a dynamic, multigenerational discussion between people with disabilities and their allies about their personal histories, the impact of the ADA, and their hopes for the future. * History Exhibit: Explore the history of Denver's disability community, with artifacts, oral histories, and a documentary, generously sourced from Denver Public Library and Atlantis Community. Some of you have read my Facebook posts about my daughter over the years. She's gone to Scout camps in several western states since she was twelve, and the outdoor experiences she's had there have greatly enriched her life. She's been canoeing in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and swimming in Flathead Lake up near the Canadian border. She's seen the Crazy Horse monument and Mount Rushmore lit up at night. She just returned from Camp Buffalo Bill near Cody, Wyoming, where she saw bison in Yellowstone, witnessed Old Faithful as it went off, and saw a grizzly bear swimming across a river. The Scouts have come up with a fundraiser that my daughter and I are really excited about. There's nothing you have to buy that you don't want lying around your house. There's nothing to eat, so you don't have to fret about calories. You get to plant trees, but you don't have to lug them home, water them, or rake leaves. The Boy Scouts of America will plant them along the Wabash River in Southern Indiana, which is badly in need of reforestation because of erosion. How great is that!? Follow this link for everything you need to know. Basically, twenty bucks buys a tree, and you can purchase more than one at a time. Forty percent of the money goes into my kid's Scout account to fund her further adventures. Thirty percent goes to the troop and council for camp maintenance, gear purchases, etc. The rest goes to the tree project. Not a bad split, honestly. I'm really jazzed about this conservation effort, especially over the Fourth of July. Regardless of our political views, we can all unite to help America. 🙂 https://trails-end.com/store/scout/YEDPUJQD?share=Q2DAF0DQ&fbclid=IwY2xjawLUZOtleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFBcVpZTmJmSmN1QWtGUXBKAR4ZB43jJ3ghYd-zGiD8_2WXrLqorQhWgLhexYv2Odscj49iHXVmUDIaROEznQ_aem_kf3Am4-s3-6VTSk7SAza2Q /// Thanks, Jo Elizabeth Pinto Please visit my author Website at https://www.brightsideauthor.com
