Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the 16th Street Summer Kickoff a success! The Downtown Denver Partnership, City and County of Denver and the 16th Street Mall Project team enjoyed starting off the summer in the heart of downtown along the newly renovated 16th Street. New Name, Same Service! Introducing the
16th Street FreeRide

RTD has renamed the Free MallRide to 16th Street FreeRide to align with the corridor's new name, 16th Street. In the coming months, RTD will update the name across the fleet of vehicles, digital assets, signage, schedules and more.

Gradually, more buses will begin to carry the 16th Street FreeRide name — but no matter if the bus says FreeMallRide or 16th Street FreeRide, you can keep riding for free!

The 16th Street FreeRide continues to run during the 16th Street Mall Project. Shuttles operate on a portion of 16th Street between Union Station and Curtis Street. The 16th Street FreeRide continues to be rerouted to 15th and 17th streets between Curtis Street and Civic Center Station. For more information on the 16th Street FreeRide detours, visit RTD's 16th Street FreeRide page<https://cig-pr.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=fc34ba15e6547b8d998f63f6a&id=3de532b907&e=0e4069ae0b>.
Phase 3 Upcoming Between Stout and California Streets

Construction fencing is nearly down between Stout and California Streets (Block 7), and Phase 3 of renovations will begin in the next couple of weeks!

During Phase 3, the project team will complete any final, small-scale work while the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District (BID) begins installing the final furnishings, fixtures and equipment along 16th Street. The installation of the final touches including furniture, planters, trash cans and other special elements that will introduce the New Look on 16th Street<https://cig-pr.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=fc34ba15e6547b8d998f63f6a&id=4f7309e22e&e=0e4069ae0b> may occur after Phase 3 of construction is complete, depending on the BID’s schedule, timelines of deliveries and weather.

These activities could have safety fencing or cones around them, but only in the area where crews are working. The BID will work directly with property owners to coordinate patio installations following the installation of these final touches.
Transition to Phase 2 Between Cleveland
Place and Broadway

Phase 2 of construction on Block 13 between Cleveland Place and Broadway is scheduled to begin as soon as this week (week of June 9) and last approximately 10 weeks. This phase includes installing the new granite pavers on the sidewalks and will require a change in the fencing layout. The image above is a general example of Phase 2 work and fencing — this block's layout will differ due to it's unique shape.

The first thing you will see is crews beginning to adjust the fence gradually to achieve the layout described below. Signage will direct pedestrians to business access points.

You can expect:

  * The south sidewalk will be enclosed with pedestrians routed to the center transitway. Five-foot walkways from the main center walkway will provide access to businesses.
  * This fencing configuration will move as work progresses, and five-foot walkways leading to businesses may be closed intermittently outside of business hours for work occurring in those areas. Business access will always be maintained while businesses are open.
  * Wayfinding signage will be installed on the fencing to direct pedestrians to businesses.

Sawcutting & Demolition

This activity may be noisy at times as sawcutting and demolition breaks up the concrete slab, but the project team will stay within the City’s noise ordinance as we recognize we are working in close proximity to businesses and residents. All construction activities are schedule and weather-dependent and subject to change.

Affected parties will be notified 7 days in advance if night work will be taking place.

Heavy equipment may operate between hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., any day of the week. Material deliveries and staging may occur overnight. All project activities and schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Due to schedule and sequencing, not all active blocks will have activities occurring at all times.
