Hi all –
John Pare sent out a call to action of Friday about the Access Technology
Affordability Act (ATAA), H.R. 1529. I’ve emailed all of the offices, and
not even got a return email. This is clearly a bipartisan disregard.
The thing that will get our members of Congress’s attention is if you call
them. The ATAA can get into the upcoming tax bill, but we need to move now.
So, please make your call on Monday or Tuesday. If you called once before,
call again and say you are calling again.
If you live in Colorado House District 6, with Jason Crow as your
Congressman, you don’t have to do anything. Congressman Crow is one of the
19 cosponsors of H.R. 1529 already.
As a quick reminder, the Access Technology Affordability Act would create a
$2,000 refundable tax credit for use over a three-year period for the
purchase of access technology. This credit would help put more access
technology in the hands of blind people thereby helping us learn, work, and
live the lives we want.
Would this tax credit fo access technology benefit you?
Then make a call.
Mathematica, a well respected economic forecasting company, has evaluated
the bill and estimate it will save the federal government $315 million over
a five-year period. This cost savings is achieved by the increased number
of blind people who will be working thereby lowering the number of people
collecting benefits and increasing the number of people paying federal and
FICA taxes.
