Huge thanks to Curtis and Dan for cochair this very important committee. They’ve done a heck of a good job for a number of years. And this is a very important part of who we are and what we do. It helps define our work to come. However, you do not have to attend the committee to author and advocate for a resolution. You can get someone to sponsor it for you. So if, you have a burning desire to help fashion and policy for the affiliate. You may offer a resolution. You may submit the resolution and you may find a colleague to sponsor the resolution on your behalf during the committee on Friday morning. But someone needs to attend the committee meeting to speak on behalf of the resolution.
At Your Service,

Hello everyone:

We are less than a month away from our 2025 NFB of Colorado convention, to be held October 30-November 2 at the Westin Westminster Hotel located at 10600 Westminster Blvd, Westminster, CO 80020.

The National Federation of the Blind of Colorado is a membership organization of blind people. The convention, being the supreme authority of the organization, is the best forum in which to raise issues affecting the blind, discuss these issues, and if necessary, adopt policies that determine how we as an organization will deal with these issues. Resolutions are our formal statements of policy and often set the stage for future actions of the organization. In past years, our convention adopted resolutions which resulted in laws being passed to protect the rights of blind parents and to make it possible for blind registered voters in Colorado to vote accessibly, privately, and independently using the nonvisual access technology of their choice.

If you think there ought to be a law, that a law is unfair to blind people, or if you think we should recognize the positive actions of some individual or organization for good work that benefits the blind, you can write and submit a resolution for the convention to consider. If you want to condemn and deplore the actions taken by an organization or governmental entity, you can write and submit a resolution about that, too.

Now I know that for a lot of us, writing resolutions seems to be something that is complicated, tedious, and (yes) boring. Nevertheless, resolutions are an important part of how we get things done in the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado.

If you don't feel comfortable writing a resolution or if you just need a little bit of help, you should know that Dan Burke and I are serving as co-chairs of the Resolutions Committee this year. Either or both of us would be glad to turn your resolution into its final form to be presented to the Resolutions Committee at our upcoming convention. The Resolutions Committee will meet on Friday morning, October 31. The committee will decide which resolutions are to be passed on to be considered by the full convention on Sunday, November 2. You must attend the Resolutions Committee meeting in person in order for your resolution to be considered by the committee.

The deadline for submitting a resolution to the committee is Friday, October 17. This gives Dan Burke and me barely enough time to take care of finalizing the text of your resolution and creating Braille and digital copies.

We look forward to seeing all of you at the convention.

Cordially,

Curtis Chong and Dan Burke
Legislative Co-Chairs
