Hello National Federation of the Blind of Colorado,
My name is Arya Boris, and I am a disabled doctoral candidate at Widener
University in the Human Sexuality program. I am writing to you to ask if
you could please assist me in my data collection by sharing the study
information.
The purpose of my research is to investigate disabled people’s perspectives
on the sexuality education they recall receiving. Specifically, I hope to
gain an understanding of what disabled people learned and how helpful they
felt the instruction was across a collection of 14 topics. Disabled people
are frequently excluded from participating in sexuality education research.
Or the data is limited to one type of disability as opposed to creating a
picture of the disability community. The disability advocacy phrase,
“Nothing about us without us,” is important in my perspective of inclusion
within my research.
The Widener University I.R.B. has approved this study (Protocol #925).
Participants may take the survey on their own or with the help of an aid.
Only disabled adults who have been disabled since before they were 19 years
of age, were born after 1989, were homeschooled for less than half of their
K-12 experience, and lived in the United States when they learned about
sexuality education may take this survey.
Would you be willing to share my survey with any participants who may be
eligible? I have included a recruitment flyer and email text to help you
share the information with the disabled people your organization serves.

Hello!
My name is Arya Boris, and I am a doctoral candidate at Widener University
in the Human Sexuality program. I am writing to invite you to be a part of
my research.
You can do this by taking a survey. It is your choice if you take the
survey. You do not have to finish the survey if you do not want to. You can
ask an aid to help you answer the survey if you need it. The survey will
take you between 10 and 20 minutes. You can take a break and come back to
it at any time. All of your information will be anonymous. If you want, you
can enter a raffle to win a $25 gift card as a thank you for filling out
the survey.
My research looks at what sexuality education disabled people were taught
before they became adults. I will ask you what you remember learning about.
Then you will tell me how helpful that information was to you. Also, you
will tell me where else you learned about this information.
I am disabled. I am physically, psychologically, and cognitively disabled.
I have had some of my disabilities since I was a child.
I do this research to see how disabled people feel about the sexuality
education they got. Usually, disabled people do not get to tell people how
they feel about what they are taught. I want to change that. I want to give
all disabled people the chance to be a part of making learning better for
disabled students.
You can be a part of this study if you are a disabled adult and became
disabled before you turned 19. You must have grown up in the United States.
You cannot have been homeschooled for more than half of your learning. You
must be born in 1990 or later.
