This is a good explanation of the primary process, so thought I'd pass it
on to anyone who is new to voting in Colorado.

Dear Community,
Primary election ballots are out! This yearβs primary is on June 30th. Your
ballot must be returned (NOT postmarked) by 7pm on June 30th.
*What is a primary?*
A primary determines who will advance to the general election in November.
During the primary, there are multiple candidates running from the same
party to be the partyβs nominee for the general election. In a primary
election you are choosing who you want to be your partyβs candidate on the
general election ballot. In some places, the election is the primary
because candidates have no challenger from an opposing party and will be
the only candidate on the ballot in November.
*Who can vote in a primary?*
Anyone in Colorado who is a registered voter can vote in the primary. If
you are a registered Republican, you will only receive the Republican
primary ballot. If you are a registered Democrat, you will only receive the
Democratic primary ballot. *If you are an independent, you will receive
BOTH a Republican and Democratic ballot BUT you can ONLY vote ONE ballot.*
You need to choose whether you want to vote in the Republican or Democratic
primary ballot and only vote that ballot and return it. *If you return both
ballots, neither will be counted.*
*What is the deadline for returning my ballot?*
All ballots must be returned (NOT postmarked) by 7pm on June 30th. If you

has the tools to help you find your closest location!
*What should I do if I donβt receive a ballot?*
You can request a new ballot from your county clerk OR vote in person at a
local voter service and polling center. Make sure that your address is
updated so you receive a ballot for the general election in November.
*What should I do if Iβm not registered, but want to vote?*
You can register to vote through election day online or at any voter
service and polling center.
*Having trouble voting or have additional questions?*
