Subject: Volunteer Opportunity: GoodMaps Testing
Hello Celina:
I just read the text of the flier and am quite concerned that the testing
period of June 22 through July 10 walks right over the National Federation
of the Blind convention, being held in Austin Texas, which occurs from July
3-8. Many blind people from Colorado, including yours truly, are attending
the convention.
Please see what can be done to extend this test period so that those of us
who would otherwise be absent can participate. I myself will be leaving
Colorado on June 30 and will be back in Colorado late on July 9.
The seemingly last minute nature of these communications and the (Im sure
unintentional) walking over our national convention gives ride to the kind
of cynicism and suspicion that is not helpful in these endeavors.
Yours sincerely,
Curtis Chong

Hi Curtis,
Thank you for reaching out and for sharing your concerns.
The overlap with the National Federation of the Blind convention was
certainly not intentional. We recognize that many members of Colorado's
blind community will be attending the convention, and we understand your
concern that this may limit participation in the testing opportunity.
While the Airport Access Team is not leading the GoodMaps testing effort, we
have been working to help ensure that members of the blind and low vision
community are aware of the opportunity and have a chance to participate. We
appreciate you bringing this scheduling conflict to our attention, and we
will share your feedback with both the GoodMaps and DEN project teams for
their consideration. We will also advocate for an extension of the testing
period to help accommodate those who will be attending the convention.
We also understand your concerns regarding the timing of the outreach. Our
intent was to share the opportunity as soon as we received the information
so that interested community members would have as much notice as possible.
Thank you again for your candid feedback and continued advocacy. We value
your perspective and will ensure your comments are shared with the
appropriate teams.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Hope Peña

Cordially,
Curtis Chong
