Greetings all,

We have recently learned that Jefferson County Clerk Amanda Gonzalez has been loudly proclaiming her authorship and support for bills making voting accessible for people with disabilities. In fact, she opposed the most important piece of legislation for voting access by people with disabilities. She didn’t write it. She didn’t support it. In fact, she testified against it. Please see the below.

I am Kevan Worley. I am a Colorado Springs entrepreneur. I’m a proud activist. I am a proud Democrat. I serve on a number of for-profit and non-profit boards. I have been a very active leader in citizen groups of people with disabilities for 50 years. With this statement, I don’t speak on behalf of any specific entity with which I may be involved. But, today I must speak out, and I’m sure, due to my longtime involvement in organizations that advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, I well represent the feelings of our community when we report the egregious behavior of Jefferson County Clerk Amanda Gonzalez.

As a leader in the disability rights movement, and an advocate for voting rights for blind Coloradans, I want to set the record straight about our candidate for Secretary of State. Jessie Danielson. She has been there - fighting for our voting rights day in and day out for nearly 12 years. Jessie Danielson passed SB19-202, Voting Rights for People with Disabilities. Senator Jessie Danielson passed SB21-188, Ballot Access for Voters with Disabilities - a voting rights law that her opponent, Amanda Gonzalez, came to the Capitol to oppose!! I have serious concerns about a candidate for Secretary of State who would oppose a measure that expanded voting rights for people with disabilities. The passage of this bill is one of many reasons we must support Jessie Danielson. Also, we have heard Amanda state that she wrote the Automatic Voter Registration law. That’s just not true. Senator Jessie Danielson - with her House and Senate colleagues - passed the Automatic Voter Registration law. As advocates, the disability rights community was there with Senator Jessie Danielson, and supported SB19-235, her bill that established Automatic Voter Registration. Senator Jessie Danielson worked with us - and many other community groups - to write and pass that law. Senator Jessie Danielson and her co-prime sponsors carried the legislation, working with the County Clerks, the Secretary of State, the Department of Revenue, the Department of Public Health, legislators from across the state, the Democratic Party, community and advocate organizations, and many more. We want to set the record straight that in this race, there is only one candidate that stands with integrity and a record of actually passing laws that expand access to the polls and strengthen our democracy. That candidate is Jessie Danielson, and we support her.

At Your Service,
Kevan Worley
