Subject: Fwd: Transit Academy
I am excited to announce that a new Academy is starting in May. This is a collaboration of work
between CCDC, Atlantis and ADAPT. The following is a brief description of the program. Attached is
the course description and a link to the application.
Please share with your network so that we can prepare advocates to serve in the transit arena.
Thanks
Jaime
TAAA OVERVIEW
Transit Academy at Atlantis
The Denver metro area continues to grow. Providing public and human service transportation is essential to a healthy community. Transit provides opportunity for jobs, access to health care, education and a healthy lifestyle.
Continued development of transit needs to be an effort that combines ideas from the people who utilize it, transit agencies and the government entities that help sustain it through taxes, fees or contributions.
As an old friend has told me many times, “if you are not at the table then you are probably part of the menu.”
The purpose of this academy is to improve the knowledge base on all things transit and set people up to better understand the different transportation systems available in the Denver metro area. This academy will prepare people to serve on committees, working groups,
and to take on leadership roles within the transit community. This academy is aimed at increasing representation for the disability community and aging-adults.
This academy will be taught by individuals representing Atlantis Community, Inc,
the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition (CCDC), and ADAPT Colorado.
Mission statement:
Developing leaders from the region to serve in appointed, elected, and voluntary leadership roles across transit boards, committees, and councils.
Vision statement:
A transit system shaped by the leadership, expertise, and lived experience of the disability community at every level of decision-making.
Schedule: This is 6 month training starting on May 22, 2026 and continuing on every 4th Friday of the month through October.
Duration: 10am-1pm
Location: Atlantis Community 201 South Cherokee

Preference will be given to those who have a lived disability experience, parent or guardian of a PWD, those already working in some capacity in transit and students that are in the human service fields.
