Hello!

My name is Amy Weiner Weiss, and I'm the Development Director for Denver Film.

I'm thrilled to share that on Thursday, November 7 at 4:15 pm at the Sie FilmCenter (2510 E Colfax Ave), the Denver Film Festival, in partnership with Bonnie Barlow, will be offering live audio description for the “Colorado Shorts: Documentary" Program. This is a collection of locally-made short documentaries that will be screened one right after the other, followed by a live Q&A session with participating filmmakers.

Tickets are $17 each ($13 for Denver Film members) and available for purchase at https://denverfilmfestival.eventive.org/schedule/66f1c83991ccf2020f0cc457. Tickets are also available over the phone at 720-381-0813, and in person at the Sie FilmCenter box office during operating hours (weekdays from 2:30 pm – 7:00 pm and weekends from 11:30 am - 7:00 pm). Please email accessibility@denverfilm.org<mailto:accessibility@denverfilm.org> to reserve an earpiece for access to Bonnie’s live description.

The Sie FilmCenter is located on E Colfax Avenue between Columbine and Elizabeth Streets, near the Chipotle, Twist & Shout record store, and Tattered Cover bookstore. It is across the street from East High School. If arriving by bus, please take Route 15 (E Colfax Ave) to the Colfax - Josephine stop, and walk one block east. When entering the complex, walk past the record store and turn right, then continue walking to the elevator on your right, which will take you down to the Sie FilmCenter (please take elevator down to LL).

If arriving by rideshare, please ask your driver to drop you off in the surface lot behind the Tattered Cover bookstore. You’ll be entering the complex from the back through the center path. The elevator down to the Sie FilmCenter will be on the left (please take the elevator down to LL).

Please send any questions to amy@denverfilm.org<mailto:amy@denverfilm.org>.
FILM SYNOPSES FOR AUDIO DESCRIPTION:

STONE DEAD: Journey into the enigmatic world of Rex, a self-made sculptor based in Marble, Colorado, who engages in philosophical musings about mortality — verbalizing his abandonment of fear to headstones. The audio description features the ethereally beautiful depictions of humans, demons and angels that populate his mind until they are born by his skilled hands into living stone.

MR. CATO is an elementary school teacher and pro-BMX Flatlander - adopting and transforming a style of athletic two-wheeled riding – by which he changes his students' lives. He teaches them how to ride and care for bikes while attempting to bring his sport of BMX Flatland back from the brink of extinction in the U.S. The audio description features the incredibly athletic physicality of BMX flatlander riding style where the riders challenge the laws of physics and gravity by employing their bikes in ways never dreamed of by their manufacturers and proponents.

BLINDSIGHTED: At the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind, 15-year-old filmmaker Mitch Davila- Armendano with honesty and humor, exposes the audience to the daily obstacles and prejudice faced by the blind students, the stigma associated with blindness and other common disabilities, and new opportunities and a deeper sense of belonging.

FIGHT OR FLIGHT: Denise Joi, the first female pilot ever employed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, shares how pursuing her lifelong aviation dreams helped her overcome childhood trauma, face her past to heal, and forge her own story to excel as a backcountry aviator. The audio description highlights the sense of intuitive, physical flying in unforgiving terrain, requiring strength and fortitude in the face of very real obstacles.

MY NAME IS NOT AMY: Against the backdrop of the worst wildfire in Colorado history, a mixed-race Native Bornean filmmaker reflects on her adoption into white suburban America, triggering an awakening that challenges memory, coloniality, and the adopted name she was given. The audio description provides insight into the beauty of people from the cultures she encounters in her journey and the elements we hold in common that overcome our perceived differences.

DEAR ELY: This first-person narrative follows a filmmaker piecing together 8mm home movie reels sourced from an estate sale in Colorado Springs to tell the real-life stories of the Leigh Family from Overland Park, Kansas. The audio description distinguishes the variety of images and record-making used over the last century and how they portray the culture of everyday people in a middle class existence.
Can you please let people you know who you think would be interested in attending these described films that we're doing so on the 7th at the SIE center? I can resend the emails about it if that would help you in telling folks about it. Thanks.
