</o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--><div class="WordSection1"><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Hi everyone,<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Well, here we are, the Thursday afternoon before next Wednesday\u2019s pivotal RTD Board meeting, and RTD management has yet to put out the agenda packet so we can get an idea of exactly what the Board is going to vote on at that meeting.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Further, now there\u2019s a Board Study Session scheduled for 3 pm that day. Is management actually going to wait until then to make their presentation public? Your guess is as good as mine, but this little study session certainly implies that that\u2019s a possibility.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Meantime, we still need to plan our response as if they\u2019re going to propose what they proposed back in April.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">So, I think it\u2019s still worth getting together to plan our public comment.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">If you have any questions on how the process works, this is your best time to ask them.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Public Comment Warning:<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Someone reminded me yesterday that back in March, the RTD Board voted to limit public comment to one hour. That\u2019s a travesty, and it serves to show that the Board knows they\u2019re about to make some profoundly unpopular decisions.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">So, this will require some coordination with the other local disability rights groups, and I\u2019ll be working on that next week.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Even though it\u2019s frustrating beyond belief to be kept in the dark until the last minute regarding a proposal of such magnitude, we have three main points we can focus on regardless of the proposal.<o:p></o:p></span></p><ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc"><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Use the $227 million unrestricted reserve as a bridge;<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Require an assessment of how any proposal will affect paratransit;<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">And don\u2019t vote for something that you know is going to hamstring you later this year when you actually vote to cut service.<o:p></o:p></span></li></ul><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Let\u2019s Chat:<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Come one, come all RTD riders, and let\u2019s strategize what public comment is going to give us the biggest bang for our buck.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">I know our allies in the Denver disability rights movement monitor this list.
