Hi All,
   The Community Service Division is a New Division of the National Federation of the Blind.
Many times we’ve been approached by fellow members or divisions to take part in activities in a volunteer capacity because it, in their minds might be considered “community Service” consistent with what we say we are about as a division.
 Personally,I do whatever I can to assist in all that we do in the Federation whether it is help someone find a division meeting at convention, connect someone with a blind person they ought to meet, marshal for a meeting, or help an affiliate sell an item.
 I do these things not because I am a member of the community service division, but because I am a Federationst; a member of our organization and movement and as such I do what I can to support/help any member of our federation family.
 I would do so if I were not a member of this division, and I live that many of you would do the same because we never needed a community service division to do such things.
 In order to insure our 75th convention is greater than expectation and pleasant for all, I am asking all who read this to look into their schedule of convention activities and see if you can help us staff the Independence Market.
 below you will find more information about this, and would ask that you contact the people listed in this message directly and not me.
  Thank you in advance for your help!
  Yours in the movement,
    Darian
 Independence Market Needs You
Come one, come all to the Independence Market at national convention! Yes, we do want you to come see what is new in the market and buy until your heart’s content, but we are calling out for another reason as well. We need people to volunteer to work in the market during convention. The market is open Monday through Thursday: Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. The shifts on Monday and Tuesday are broken up into four-hour intervals, 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We really need help on Monday afternoon and anytime on Tuesday. Do you have some hours during the week that you could spare volunteering? We would love to have your help. You can contact Patricia Maurer (extension 2272) or Jenivieve White (extension 2236) by telephone at (410) 659-9314, or by email at communityrelations at nfb.org <mailto:communityrelations at nfb.org> or jwhite at nfb.org <mailto:jwhite at nfb.org>.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
 “We need your service, right now, at this moment - our moment - in history. I'm not going to tell you what your role should be; that's for you to discover. But I am going to ask you to play your part; ask you to stand up; ask you to put your foot firmly into the current of history” — Barack Obama
Did you know that your unwanted vehicle can be just what is needed to help drive change for the blind .
