Darian,I would love to be part of the planning committee, but.... As the Wisconsin state Co-Legislative Director I have had to cut back my activities with your division to concentrate on the assault by the Wisconsin Governor and Legislature on our community.  This Governor and his legislative friends are trying to cut out and/ or combine different state departments to streamline and cut expenses.  In the process, students, seniors and the disabled are paying a terrible cost in lost programs and state funds that used to go into these programs and state departments.  I think, in his quest for the Presidency, Governor has "screwed the pooch" on this one.  He has woken three sleeping communities (giants) that he should not have.  Those being the University of Wisconsin establishment and students, seniors and the disabled and handicapped community and it's supporters.  We expected him to fight the unions, but this...  So now we are pooling are resources to try and stop all these budget cuts.  We are visiting every legislator and forming alliances with as many groups as we can.  We can not stop the budget from being passed or the Governor signing it.  We can put a lot of pressure on each representative and state senator, by letting them know, if they back this budget, that they will have opposition to their re-elect that they have never seen before and wished they had not.  So, forgive me if I get a little distracted from what I have been doing in the committees of your division I have been involved in..  I will try to keep up in the activities that I am active in now, be it fund-raising, membership out-reach or assigned topics to be written on.  I just can't see me having the time or energy to work on planning also.Warmest Regards,
Tom Peralta

  The Convention Planning Committee of the Community Service Division  will meet this Sunday, March 22  at   8PM  Eastern Time. On this call we will  start to think about the type of  presence we wish to have at convention.  Here is what we have thus   far(keep in mind that this only includes  activities that we plan to have in the hotel ):1. Community Service Division Seminar2.  trivia night 3.  exhibit all  presence.
 We’ll primarily focus on  what we’ll want to have take place during the seminar, the format of the trivia night and the  feasibility of a  exhibit hall table vs  alternatives to having it.  As this is a  planning call, all those who wish to take part in the planning  are most welcome to this call, where  discussion and decisions will start.  call in- information is as follows: (712)432-0140 code: 808277  Many Thanks,   Darian

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
