[Community-service] red cross volunteering and barriersexperienced

Thank you Darien! I don't know what we can do, but I think we could get help from the other professional divisions. After all volunteer service leads to internships and  jobs. We are told that's how you build a resume. Perhaps and I'm not speaking for anyone because I've always volunteered where I could, but this seems quite important to me as I find out more and more colleges and even public-school systems are putting a volunteer component into graduation. If it's a requirement to graduate, and VR is assisting us in our education then accommodations need to be supported by law. But not only supported for students, but people of all ages because a lot of seniors are involved with retired senior volunteer program and other places. Whether big business wants to admit it or not, volunteers run the world. We are just more quiet about it.

The only thing I can think about is the reason a lot of places like nonprofits don't is because they aren't educated. They don't know there are free things out there that won't harm their computer systems. They don't know about the capabilities because they're usually serving us as someone mentioned earlier. Perhaps someone could develop an educational booklet for nonprofits and other volunteer experiences that NFB could have in the independent market? I know it's a big idea which would be a big undertaking.. but this isn't something the NFB is afraid of! I'll bet the writers division would help us. Just a thought. :-)
