[Community-service] Big Brothers Big Sisters

I hear that there are two ways that a person can be involved, one is on the child’s school campus and the other in the community.
I also hear that for some people school is not something that fits their schedule so the community option is a good one.
The problem seems to be that a person is required to have a driver’s license and that no other form of transportation is an option. Is this true? are there blind people who are able to mentor in the community despite not being able to drive?
  Thanks!
