[Community-service] We don't volunteer?

I would imagine that in general, those volunteer oriented citizens in this country are in the minority

It would seem to me that though these people have a great amount of enthusiasm, energy, willingness to give of time and talent and treasure they are still of the smaller number than those en masse who live in the country.
That said, I also am of the belief that we all have different constraints and reasons for possibly not volunteering as we might want or as we could.
For one thing, we often say that we just don't have the time. Many of us have packed schedules. If, however we could set aside time to for example, meet a friend, or a relative for lunch, or dinner, or drinks, then maybe we have the time after all. It's just a matter of what time we have for the social/optional stuff, and do you want to donate that time to something or someone else?

As far as blind people in general, most times we will involve ourselves in things having to do with blindness. It's a logical thing to do, and I think it makes just as much sense as Latinos working on Latino issues, women working on women's issues, or youth working on youth issues.
We end up going for the things that we can most clearly see a need for and identify that are energy will be best used in our time is most appreciated.
Certainly, volunteering is a very broad type of concept and can fit anything.
Now, in the context of this division of course, we don't really focus on volunteering in the blind community because… Well… We kind of know what that is and do it very well. Plus, it just makes that much sense to help people that are not within our circle because it's another option is a for us to educate the public , And to get ourselves, impact on a wider scale, and move forward the message that blind people can do stuff, or more capable than we are often given credit
How many people actually engage in this type of volunteerism?
