The Des Moines Chapter, National Federation of the Blind of Iowa is working on one. On April 5 there will be a trip to fill meals from the heartland, and we are considering some other things as well.

Subject: [Community-service] Community Service efforts in our state affiliates

Hi all,

  I know that we have some folks currently working on organized community service efforts in Texas, Washington DC and California. Beyond that, are there any folks working on efforts in other states?

 Are there people that aren’t working on organized community service efforts that want to see about getting one going in your state?

   Best,

Darian Smith

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the

characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the

expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles

between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;

blindness is not what holds you back.

 “We need your service, right now, at this moment - our moment - in history. I'm not going to tell you what your role should be; that's for you to discover. But I am going to ask you to play your part; ask you to stand up; ask you to put your foot firmly into the current of history” — Barack Obama
