What a good way to give back. I’m embarrassed that I never thought of it.

I donate blood as often as I can. I have donated at Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC, and for the Red Cross. Only a few hospitals have their own blood banks. Children’s Hospital sent a van to get me and some of my coworkers there to donate. It is an easy thing to do for most of us. If I were a person who had hard-to-find veins, or if I got dizzy, or if it took a long time to get a pint out of me, I would probably find some other way to be useful, but I have had good experiences.

Children’s Hospital has to interview me just as they interview every other donor. I think the Red Cross has a way to fill out the questionnaire that is not accessible to us.

Blindness is not much of a factor in giving blood, and I will take any excuse to get free cookies.

Hello, friends!

Have you ever served your community by donating blood? If so, we would love to hear all about your experience! Was it rewarding? How did giving blood compare to other forms of service that you have previously completed or become familiar with? Feel free to reply to this thread or email board member Johna Wright at johnawright98 at gmail.com. Be sure to include your name and where you’re from in your response. We can’t wait to hear from you!
