SERVICE SPOTLIGHT!
Take a gamble on COMMUNITY SERVICE and you are guaranteed to walk away a WINNER! “IDO” COMMUNITY SERVICE CHALLENGE
Ned Moye volunteers at Longwood Health and Rehab from August 2018 until present.

Ned’s Reflection

As an individual and former resident of the facility, I provide companionship and counciling to residents twice a month. I council with a male resident who recently became visually impaired and offer emotional support. I also participate in birthday parties for the residents and bingo night on a monthly basis as well. This experience has re-enforced the importance of sharing my life experiences as a blind individual and double amputee with others in order to offer hope to others who may have given up on life. I am proud to be able to offer my support and advice in a very tough time for others, to the extent that the staff has also been inspired and welcomed me to come back any time even after I had been discharged. The residents look forward to the excitement, jokes and affection that I bring to them. It is very rewarding to know that I am able to let people know that even though life has challenges, there is always hope. I am an employee at Lighthouse Works of Central Florida as a Fulfillment Specialist in the Products Division for the past 2 and a half years. I take pride in my work and in coordinating events for my department as well as creating an environment of inclusion for my coworkers that was not in place until I started. I am the founder of the SAVE (Student, Alumni, Volunteer and Employee) committee for Lighththouse Works which includes designing T-shirts and organizing outings among the blind individuals in the community. I am also a proud father of a son and a daughter who are attending college.
