*Welcome to Blind Equality Achievement Month!*
Thirty Days filled with hope, inspiration, and love! Our next Community
Achievers are two pillars of strength. Meet Daphne Mitchell & Marci
Carpenter!
It’s a wonderful thing, this technology that we use. It does not require
ink. If we had to use old faithful, pen and paper to describe these two
beautiful ladies, there would be a significant ink shortage! They are
equally and individually bright, educated, reliable, brave, independent,
resilient women that push community service beyond its boundaries.
Daphne manages vocational rehabilitation field services for the New Mexico
Commission for the Blind. She also serves on the board of directors for the
NFB of New Mexico, is the secretary of the Louisiana Center for the Blind
Board of Directors, and actively participates in and supports various
efforts to advance marginalized and minority populations. Ethical
principles, equity, fidelity, integrity, and justice are the core values
that guide Daphne's personal and professional decisions.
Our second pillar has been a proud member of the Federation since joining
in 1981 as a student. Currently, Marci serves as president of the
Washington affiliate and is one of the National Board members. She also
serves on the board of trustees of the state school for the blind and has
helped blind youth and adults learn self-advocacy. Marci lives life with
intentionality and sincerity. She cares deeply about creating space for
people to heal and grow.
These impressive, hard-working women demonstrate and exemplify what it
means to be blind. They have empowered young and old, men and women
throughout this nation, to live the lives they want!
Like Daphne and Marci, you too, can be a beacon of hope in your community!
