This past gorgeous Saturday, I volunteered at Fayetteville Urban
ministry, an organization that provides emergency assistance (food
clothing, utility assistance) to Fayetteville, NC, residents, as well
as employment readiness services such as resume development. After
enjoying a delicious chicken, a few other previous volunteers waited
in the lobby, while the newbies took a tour around the emergency
assistance section of the building, which includes a food pantry and
a clothing closet. Once the tour concluded, we were divided into
groups of four, and I was guided in the direction of the others toward
the clothing closet. My group was stationed at the clothing closet,
where we hung clothes on hangers and hung them on clothing racks. As
we hung up clothes, there was laughter and plenty of conversation.
Everyone acted as though they wanted to volunteer. If anyone felt
bored, I didn’t notice it.
This past Saturday made my third time volunteering at Fayetteville
Urban Ministry. Each time I have volunteered with this organization, I
have felt welcomed, and everyone acted as if they enjoyed themselves.
Each time I have volunteered, I have met a different group of people.
I, along with my Kool-Aid smile, will be volunteering at FUM next
mont. I cannot wait!h
