He served our great nation for thirty painstaking years! His love for our country and his passion for service goes beyond those midnight dress blues. He lost his vision a short time ago when he survived a horrific car accident caused by a drunk driver. Whenever a person learns of his story, they always want to feel sorry for him. His known response is, “let the world take my sight, it was God who spared my life.”

Mr. Connate is a proud father of three daughters and a loving grandfather to twelve grandchildren. He is a lover of sports, you name it, and he’ll give it a watch. He likes to work with his hands and always finds carpentry type projects to get into. His greatest joy is being a family man. He is usually the first parent or grandparent on the field to watch his family play their respective sport, and the last one to leave. He doesn’t have time for politics, but believes that a little bit of compassion and a whole lot of patience, can go a long way.

The Sargent had no time or desire to grow old watching daytime soaps, he needed to be able to step outside of the uniform and keep on serving. During this chapter of his life, he can serve on a more local level and be involved in his community in a more personal way. He helps promote the awareness of veteran homelessness and helps provide resources and shelters for veterans that have fallen on hard times. It hurts him to see anyone without food or housing. Also, he and his family volunteer their time at a few different food banks, twice a week. He believes it’s important to show your children and grandchildren the value in giving back.

The Community Service Division is sincerely grateful for all the brave men and women for their service and sacrifice!

#BEAM
