She was a product of mainstreaming in the 1980s in the New York City school system and attained a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Special Education, from Long Island University.</div><div style="margin:0px;font-stretch:normal;font-size:11px;line-height:normal;font-family:"Helvetica Neue"" class=""> While working for the Social Security Administration and as a special educator , she experienced discrimination for being a blind employee in an integrated work setting. This forced her to recognize that there was a strong need for advocacy within the field of disability. </div><div style="margin:0px;font-stretch:normal;font-size:11px;line-height:normal;font-family:"Helvetica Neue"" class=""> Currently, she’s ‘ a Disability Rights Advocate and Civic Engagement Organizer, serving as a liaison between New York State policy makers and the disabled community, ensuring that the disabled voice is included within our government and champions for the cessation of disability voter suppression. </div><div style="margin:0px;font-stretch:normal;font-size:11px;line-height:normal;font-family:"Helvetica Neue"" class=""> She has also been an active member of the National Federation of the Blind since 2015where she serves as the chair of the NYS Diversity & Inclusion committee, a mentor to blind transition-aged youth within the organization. and was the state coordinator for their braille enrichment summer program for children, ages 4-12. (BELL Academy) In 2019, she was elected to the board of the New York State National Federation of the Blind and started the National Federation of the Blind Vanguard Chapter of Greater New York,, an integrated group that encompasses individuals of all abilities who have the common goal of disability/ blindness rights, community service and activism. She’s also a member of the disability advocacy groups,Disabled In Action and ADAPT.</div><div style="margin:0px;font-stretch:normal;font-size:11px;line-height:normal;font-family:"Helvetica Neue"" class=""> She’s a single parent and pod caster, where she shines a positive light on disabled womanhood. She’s also the president of One Heart One Vision Inc.,a 501C3 charitable organization that provides community service, support and educational services for blind/ low vision women from disenfranchised neighborhoods.. Rasheta is a proud Willing Worker with the Community Service Division and believes that her mission in life is to serve others.
