It’s up to you. Contact your local chapter people (if any) to see if there’re already efforts to cover your local Goodwill. If not, go ahead and order the sign, contact the media and do whatever else you can do to share the word. There was a nice phone chat with CT affiliate members and Anil Lewis last week that covered a lot of what we’re discussing just now. It’s good to investigate this sort of stuff so we’re not too redundant on the list and we’re all on the same page. Speaking of which, check out the at-large NFBCT phone conference next week.

Trevor A

From: ct-nfb-bounces@nfbnet.org [mailto:ct-nfb-bounces@nfbnet.org] On Behalf Of Cookiechumper@aol.com
Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2012 10:52 PM
To: ct-nfb@nfbnet.org
Subject: Re: [Ct-nfb] FW: [NFB Affiliate Presidents] Finding a Way to Make a Dif...

Hello these are good questions and good points. How will we get to our respective Good Will Store? Will vans be provided?
Response: Maybe. Maybe not. Where would you expect vans to meet us? Were you hoping for them to pick people up at their houses like school buses?

2. How will the lumber be procured and who will staple the signs to the lumber? Surly, you don't expect us to go out and shop for 4 foot pieces of lumber and staple the signs to the 4ft of lumber. Some of us are totally blind nor do we have significant others to assist us.
Response: How is eyesight a requirement for shopping for lumber? Why is vision required to staple signs to pieces of lumber? I can understand why individuals might not want to bear the costs of the lumber, but I don't understand why eyesight or significant others assisting us would be necessary. I've done this kind of thing before and never needed a significant other to help.

3. I have a good will store right on Town line Rd., right in back of Stop&Shop. Is this our protest site?
Response: It is a protest site, but not necessarily the only one. As the communications from national have said, we need to be present at all Goodwill stores in the United States. Yours is most likely not the only one in Connecticut, so not all Connecticut affiliate protesters would be going to your store...unless it is the only Goodwill store in Connecticut.

4. Who is the site coordinator for our site.
Response: Good question. I'm sure Beth and the rest of the state board are actively looking for people to take on those roles. If you want to help, offer to help!

5. Where is our site?
Response: Another good question. I bet the one right near you is a good one to be your site, but the communications from national said that we would be protesting at all Goodwill locations in the United States.

I have not had a planning role in these protests, but I am quite simply regurgitating information that I have read in the mass communications from national that we all received. Some of my responses have simply been philosophical reactions to questions that seem to underestimate the competence of blind people. We really can perform these normal tasks if we have the right skills and training.

I hope that helped.

Yours in Federationism,

Justin Salisbury

Justin M. However, she also let me know that her chapter had all
agreed to take the flyers to each of the respective members churches to
distribute and educate their city about sub-minimum wages.
Dorothy also took it upon herself to find a chapter where she will be on the
weekend that we conduct the protest.
