<div>April is Alaska's birth month! Yes, on April 9, 1960 Alaska became the 47th state affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind! We are hosting this raffle to celebrate. This is not just any raffle this is a special state-to-state only raffle. No raffle tickets will be sold during the 2014 National Federation of the Blind convention in Orlando, Florida.</div>

<div>The year is 2011 and Mark Roccobo is set to make history! He demonstrated the determination of the blind, visually impaired, and Deaf-Blind that it is possible to drive a car independently! By traversing and passing vehicles on the famous Daytona Beach Speedway Mark indeed made history!</div>

<div>The year is 2014 and Dr. Marc Maurer is ending his illustrious career as President of the National Federation of the Blind. His 27-year tenure has brought tremendous growth and solid leadership in advocating for the blind, visually impaired and Deaf-Blind across our great American nation and the world!</div>

<div>The Midnight Sun Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Alaska donated to the Alaska state affiliate two tee shirts as state affiliate fundraiser items. The following is a description of these unique garments.</div>

<div>"Midnight Sun Chapter Tee-shirt"</div>

<div>This light gray shirt has a front view showing the NFB Logo Whozit standing on a dog sled. The Whozit is driving the sled, which is pulled by five enthusiastic sled dogs wearing dark glasses. Above the picture are the words "National Federation of the Blind". Below the picture are the words "Midnight Sun Chapter serving the Interior of Alaska."</div>

<div>What is the connection between these Tee-shirts, Dr. Maurer and Mr. Roccobono? Both have individually autographed a tee shirt! These garments retail at $20.00 US each are made priceless with their generous gesture of support to a local NFB chapter! Made all the more special as items to help celebrate NFB Alaska's introduction into the largest organization of the blind in the world!</div>

<div>These two one of a kind garments are offered together. Yes our $10.00 raffle ticket will make it possible for someone or state affiliate to own these truly one of a kind National Federation of the Blind keepsake! The raffle tickets will be distributed to the state affiliate presidents only. These raffle tickets will not be abailable at the 2014 national convention. This one of the kind raffle ends June 6, 2014 with the drawing of the winning ticket during the 2014 NFB national convention.</div>

<div>The Midnight Sun Chapter and the National Federation of the Blind of Alaska appreciate the generosity of Mr. Riccobono and Dr. Maurer in making it possible for us to raise much-needed funds for our state's programs.</div>

<div>Alaska is a very large state. How large? No joke, split Alaska in two and Texas will be the third largest state in the union. This largeness comes with mixed blessings. Travel relies heavily on air transportation. The few roads connect just two of Alaska's largest communities Anchorage and Fairbanks. Our capital city Juneau can only be reached by air or sea. No overland road access. In addition telecommunication along with the tremendous travel distances places much stress on our blind, visually impaired and deaf-blind especially those families with blind children. In addition we are hoping to update our audio equipment to better accommodate our Deaf-Blind members. See Tony Olivero's article in the Braille Monitor for details. This special one-time raffle of these on of a kind items are offered to aid in offsetting these tremendous financial challenges.</div>
