National Federation of the Blind of CT</span><span> will gather for our </span><span>45th
Annual State Convention </span><span>on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, November 4 – 6, 2016 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 25 Old
Stratford Road in Shelton. </span><span>To
reserve a room, contact the hotel at 203-443-1000</span><span>. Rooms are available at the discounted convention rate of
$94.00 plus tax for Friday and Saturday nights. When making your reservation,
mention the NFB of CT to get the special rate. </span><span>Please make your reservation by October 21st</span><span>. The hotel is offering a limited
number of shuttle runs from the Bridgeport and Derby train stations. To make
shuttle requests, please ask to speak to Felicia Hudson. Meals mentioned below
will be included in your registration.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoTitle" align="left"><span> </span></div><div class="MsoTitle" align="left"><span>The </span><span>LowViz
Guide</span><span> for indoor navigation will be
installed at the hotel. Those with iPhones and iPads will be able to use this
to navigation the building via an app.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoTitle" align="left"><span> </span></div><div class="MsoTitle"><span><u>Convention Agenda</u></span><span><o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span>We
will begin Friday evening with dinner and time for socializing and networking.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span> </span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span>Saturday
will begin with a continental breakfast at 8:00 AM. From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM,
we’ll hear from a variety of speakers, including affiliate president <b>Edward Shaham</b>, <b>Dan Wenzel </b>from Blind Inc, and <b>Brian
Sigman </b>from BESB. There will be an update on our legislative advocacy, and
we will meet our scholarship recipients. Blind motorcycle racer <b>Dan Parker</b> will speak, as will<b> Dr. Fred Schroeder, </b>a prominent voice
in the organized blind movement and President of the World Blind Union. <b>Nick Whitney</b> from Guide Dogs for the
Blind will speak also. Lunch will be at 1:00 PM.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span> </span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span>From
2:00 to 3:00 PM, we will have an <b>Innovation
Hour</b>. <b>Steve Famiglietti</b> from
OakHill will give a presentation on the Amazon Echo and Apple TV. <b>John Panarese</b> from Mac for the Blind
will demonstrate health-related iOS apps. Our <b>Vendor and Exhibit Hall</b> will be open from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Purchase
merchandise from several vendors who are located in Connecticut. Also, check
out exhibits on rehabilitation, exercise, guide dogs and more.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span> </span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span>The <b>CT Association of Blind Students</b> will
be busy from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with an agenda that includes a business
meeting and lunch. From 2:30 to 4:00, they will host an <b>Astronomy Project</b> with Edgar Machicote and Noreen Grice for <b>younger students.</b><o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span> </span></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><span>Our
Saturday evening banquet will begin at 6:00 PM.<b> Dr. Schroeder</b> will be our keynote speaker, and we will award<b> scholarships </b>to some of our fine

will be a <b>Sunday morning breakfast</b>
at 8:00 AM, followed by a <b>business
meeting</b>. This is the time for affiliate members to choose their leaders. We
will be electing a new president as well as other officers and some of our
