Subject: [Nfbnet-members-list] Fwd: BISM Summer Programs in 2013

Blind Industries and Services of Maryland is administering two residential programs for blind youth in the summer of 2013:

Work to Independence 2013 (June 22 to August 10<x-apple-data-detectors://0>) is a seven week residential program for blind high school students. Students will learn the non-visual techniques to develop the skills and confidence needed to optimize their independence as they transition to adulthood. Blind adults will provide hands-on instruction and supervision throughout this comprehensive program. High school students will attend the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Convention in Orlando Florida, participate in recreational activities with their peers and put their skills to practice in a 20 hour per-week paid work experience during the last four weeks of the program.

Independence 101 2013<tel:101%202013> (July 20-August 10<x-apple-data-detectors://2>) is a three week residential program for blind middle school/upper elementary students. Students will receive hands-on instruction from blind adults to learn non-visual techniques . These skills will build a foundation which will improve their self-confidence and increase their independence. Students will live with competent blind adults and will enjoy many recreational activities with their peers in the Baltimore-Washington DC area.

We are also looking for summer counselors to staff these programs. This is a great employment opportunity for students enrolled in post-secondary education who are looking to earn some extra money this summer while positively impacting the lives of blind youth. Please share this email with anyone who might be interested in attending or working in one of the programs. More information regarding the programs and employment opportunities can be found on our website at www.bism.org/youth<http://www.bism.org/youth>.

Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or need more information.

Sincerely,

Dan Wenzel, M.S.
