[Ctabs] Rescheduling the Next Meeting

It also occurs to me that our affiliate can reorganize any chapter or division at any time. In other words, our affiliate leadership runs the show here. I think it would be great for us to move forward with that meeting time. Let's do it!

Hey everybody,

I still haven’t heard from folks about meeting times and schedules. I’d love to see this happen soon. We are now looking at the first constitutionally-available date as 8/14 because of the 10-day advance notice clause. When do we want to meet?

Talk soon,

Justin

Aloha CTABS members and leaders,

After consulting with President Edward Shaham, I believe it is best to move the meeting to an August date.

Ultimately, if we are going to schedule a meeting, it is important to have it scheduled far enough in advance that we have a decent probability of a health level of attendance by the membership.

We had discussed August 11 to keep the Thursday trend. I would normally call the meeting myself for that date because most NFB chapters and divisions have a clause in their constitutions which says that any member can call a meeting. Ours, however, says the following:

VII. MEETINGS
1. Annual Business Meetings.
The organization shall hold an annual business meeting, the time and place of which shall coincide with the time and place of the state convention of the National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut.
2. Special Meetings.
The president of this organization may call a special meeting any time she or he or a majority of the board of directors deems such action to be necessary. At such special meetings at least twenty-five percent of the active members must be present to transact business. To call such a meeting, notice must be given to the board of directors at least ten days prior to the date of such special meeting.

So, it appears that President Brian Martin must call the meeting and do it 10 days prior to the meeting. I think August 11 is a great idea.

I also want to recommend that we amend our constitution to allow any member to call a meeting.

How do folks feel about August 11? President Martin, it’s all you!

I am totally fine with this.

President Brian Martin, what would you like to do?

Good morning! Should we just push back the meeting until 8:30 PM or 9 PM so no one is rushed? Seems like a small alteration that we can do if others are open to it.
Thoughts?

I was talking with President Brian Martin recently about the need to
reschedule the August meeting. We have gotten into a routine of meeting on
the first Thursday of each month at 8 pm ET; however, Brian will be
out-of-service for the first week of August.

We could keep the Thursday trend and meet one week from today on July 28 or
push the meeting back one week and meet on August 11. We will have plenty to
talk about. August 11 will fall during the week of the BELL Academy in
Wethersfield, so this could be a good thing or a bad thing. It would be good
because it would give us an opportunity to get an update on how the program
is going. I suppose a potential downside is that, if any of our members are
working that program that week, they might be a little tired at the time of
the call.

Anyone is welcome to propose additional dates for the call.

Yours,

Justin Salisbury
