A Possible Cure for Diabetes Ignored by Big Pharma
Twelve years ago, Professor Irving Weissman discovered a treatment that could have saved the lives of thousands of women with advanced breast cancer. Pharmaceutical companies weren't interested in developing the therapy at the time.
Though interest in his methods are finally being ignited, Weissman regrets the wasted time. In a set of lectures, Weissman repeatedly expressed frustration that while many of his discoveries in the field of stem cell research seemed to hold remarkable potential for life-saving treatments, commercial or regulatory hurdles have prevented his scientific findings from benefiting patients.
One example is Weissman's research on type I diabetes, in which he demonstrated the ability to fully cure type I diabetes in mice using stem cells. But even though his experiments avoided political controversy by using adult stem cells, which do not come from embryos, Weissman ran into a road block when pharmaceutical companies refused to sponsor clinical trials.
Weissman believes that the pharmaceutical companies put profit over principle, preferring to keep diabetes sufferers dependent on costly insulin than to cure them once and for all.

Dr. Mercola's Comments:
Type 1 diabetes, or insulin dependent diabetes, is a really sad chronic condition. This is in stark contrast to type 2, which is caused by insulin resistance and faulty leptin signaling, due to inappropriate diet and lack of exercise - an entirely preventable, and nearly 100 percent reversible condition through lifestyle modifications.
Type 1 diabetics, however, do not produce insulin and must therefore inject insulin several times a day. The disease tends to progress rather quickly and therefore needs to be diagnosed early, as it can result in serious long-term complications including blindness, kidney failure, heart disease and stroke.
Tragically those with type 1 diabetes can have the healthiest lifestyle possible yet still suffer many diseases, as current technology is a poor substitute for a fully functioning pancreas. The sad thing about type 1 diabetes is that it now appears nearly completely preventable. New research suggests if a pregnant woman has optimal vitamin D levels during her pregnancy and then maintains them in her baby once delivered, this should radically reduce if not virtually eliminate type 1 diabetes.
Obviously finding out this information after a person has had their pancreatic islet cells destroyed and is insulin dependent doesn't help much, but the good news is that within your lifetime we will have developed the ability to safely replace these cells, most likely with similar approaches to the one described in the article above.
If this sounds farfetched, you should know that Dr. Weissman is not the only scientist to lay claim to the power of stem cells to cure type 1 diabetes.
In 2007 the British Times Online reported on the first clinical evidence for the efficacy of Hematopoietic stem cells (stem cells derived from bone marrow) in type 1 diabetes.
The Brazilian study, published in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), found that treatment-related toxicity was low, with zero mortality. All but two of the volunteers (93 percent) in the trial did not require daily insulin injections for up to three years after the end of their treatment, as the therapy allowed their bodies to start producing the hormone naturally again.
The main drawback with the particular therapy used in that study, from my standpoint, is that drugs were used to first suppress the patients' immune system before receiving transfusions of stem cells drawn from their own blood. Suppression of your immune system could lead to all types of health problems - after all, your immune system is your primary line of defense - however, the theory of using stem cells to reactivate natural insulin production is an intriguing and hopeful one.
Does Big Pharma Want to Find a Cure for Diabetes?
It certainly would not make financial sense, and I think it's fairly safe to say that pharmaceutical companies are in business these days to make money - not to actually cure disease. So, when Dr. Weissman implies that he was unable to entice pharmaceutical sponsors because they prefer to keep diabetes sufferers dependent on costly insulin, he's probably not far off.
There are numerous examples of well-educated, innovative doctors and scientists who have created alternative medical treatments that far supersede conventional drug treatments, and yet they are more frequently than not shunned, persecuted, or even prosecuted for their efforts.
At least Dr. Weissman did not suffer a fate similar to any of these doctors:
Gaston Naessens - Dr. Naessens cancer treatment is based on the theory that cancer is caused by a friendly microorganism called somatids ("little bodies") -- which are present in all cells -- that becomes unfriendly. His formula, 714X, provides nitrogen to the cancer cells, thus causing this microorganism to cease excreting their toxic compounds, and mobilize your immune system to kill the cancer cells. He was subsequently put on trial for his cancer discoveries.
Stanislaw Burzynski -- Dr. Burzynski, founder of the Houston-based Burzynski Institute, treats cancer patients with substances called antineoplastons. He was indicted by a grand jury in 1995 for his use of antineoplastons- his second trial that year. He was acquitted.
Ryke Geerd Hamer - Dr. Hamer's "German New Medicine" (GNM), operates under the premise that every disease originates from an unexpected shock experience, and that all disease can be cured by resolving these underlying emotional traumas. Despite a 95 percent success rate, Dr. Hamer has spent time in prison for refusing to disavow his medical findings and stop treating his patients with his unorthodox techniques, and is currently living in exile, seeking asylum from persecution.
Adult Stem Cell Treatments are the Wave of the Future
I believe therapies using adult stem cells - as opposed to embryonic stem cells which are at the heart of the stem cell controversy - is and will continue to be a major, exciting part of the future of medicine.
There's little risk of rejection when using your own adult stem cells, so you're less likely to need dangerous immunosuppressive drugs. And besides certain ethical issues and regulatory barriers to embryonic stem cell therapy, adult stem cells may hold several technical advantages. For one, they may be more viable.
It's a little known fact that only about 30 percent of conceptions advance to term. In other words, about 70 percent of embryos may be so defective that they naturally abort.
In addition to eventually helping restore internal organs, immune systems and more, adult stem cell therapies also hold the promise of restoring old skin and bald scalps. I am personally beta testing a new product for regrowing hair that has adult stem cell factors (primarily peptides, no DNA) and have been favorably impressed with the results to date.
One major player in the field is The Maximum Life Foundation. They have discovered an emerging technology that could fine tune stem cell treatments and make every adult stem cell therapy in the world much more safe and effective.
As you age, your stem cells diminish in quality and quantity, so just when you require strong stem cells the most, you're becoming deficient. Hence your organs and tissues eventually wear out and need to be restored or replaced.
Cells become randomly damaged or mutated over time, but a small percentage may incur relatively little damage-or may escape damage altogether. So some of your stem cells may be as pristine as those that you enjoyed as a teenager, or even as an infant.
The technology discovered by The Maximum Life Foundation identifies, isolates, and amplifies those "pristine" stem cells from your own population for therapies. This selection process could supercharge stem cell treatments by using these "best of breed" cells instead of old cells.
Stem Cell Treatments Have Been Proven to Work
As a bridge to human therapies, a San Diego company has already given us a peek into the future with their horse and dog treatments. Vet-Stem provides a quick-turnaround laboratory service that lets veterinarians to use regenerative cells in animals.
The veterinarian simply collects a small fat sample from the patient and ships it overnight to the Vet-Stem laboratory. Then, Vet-Stem processes the sample, concentrates the cells which are shipped in ready-to-inject syringes. Finally, the veterinarian injects the cells directly into the injured site.
With more than 3,000 horses treated and multiple studies demonstrating the success and safety of their regenerative medicine, Vet-Stem currently helps horses and dogs with fractures, joint disease, or tendon or ligament injuries return to their full level of ability.
Just imagine what the prospects for aged humans might be if similar treatments used pristine human stem cells. Type 1 diabetes wouldn't be the only chronic disease that could be effectively wiped out.
However, despite Dr. Weissman's negative experiences in trying to bring his findings to the fore, it's not completely out of the question yet. In an accompanying editorial in JAMA titled "Cellular therapy for type 1 diabetes: has the time come?" Dr Jay Skyler of the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami, wrote:
"Research in this field is likely to explode in the next few years and should include randomized controlled trials, as well as mechanistic studies."

It is overly simplistic to say that big pharma only cares about making a profit. Their primary goal is to keep the public sick, weak, fearful, dependent and ignorant. Profit is secondary. As J. Edgar Hoover said, "The individual is handicapped when he confronts a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists." And he was part of it! Big pharma is owned by the same families that own the banks, the political system, the media and more. Their goal right now is to kill about five billion people in order to make the human herd easier to manage. They already own the world so they don't need more money. The profits they make are just a cover story for their real agenda. Did you know that the top guys at the National Institute for Health and the Center for Disease Control are all military intelligence officers? Their job is to kill people, not make them healthy. Listen to free MP3 downloads at http://drop.io/Summerbird Most of the files are interviews from the Alex Jones radio show with numerous people on various subjects including the elite plan to kill most of us.

Somewhere along the way of time and history it probably should've been known it would come to this. Start preparing for the future resistance then (like the Terminator future minus the machines and plasma guns), when and if the time should come. I was at Target the other day, and saw a book by Kevin Trudeau. He works in natural cures too, and he says the exact same. Pharma and the federal government is doing everything in its power to stop natural medicine, that they use Gestapo tactics too. People disappear, are kept quiet, with their research seized in raids at gunpoint. And to think about what he says, it makes sense that they have an interest to hide the real cures and keep people sick in an endless cycle of sickness. Their goal, or at least one of them, is to keep people sick but alive for as long as possible so they can keep their business going. Say there was a herbal plant, found in the Amazon, whose tea could cure cancer. If the world knew of this plant, there's no money to be made. Phama wouldn't make money off their cancer drugs, their line of cancer vaccines (like Gardasil). There would be no need for the Ameican Cancer Association, or chemo, or cancer doctors. If there was no sickness, Phama and medicinal practices have no need to exist.

Drug companies are about their bottom line. It's all about the money not about saving lives or curing disease.
I've just come through (almost) an unnecessary medical procedure. Prescribed drugs caused side effects that more medication was prescribed for....which caused more side effects. When I could barely walk I decided to take back responsibility for my health.
My research led me to this site, among others, who are telling it like it is. I'll be writing about my personal experience and will post it here.

some folks are going to think LibertValence is OTT, however when you look at the real Big Picture, he is on the side of correct! When they can dump tons of food into the ocean, rather than allow a 3rd world country very close by to have it for the cost of the extra fuel to ship it a little further? when safe natural alternatives are banned from sale.VIT B6 is the latest! than the ass#oles at MERK folks! when the FDA is staffed by exgovt military, financiers etc and has a revolving door. so they swap positions regularly, when vaccinations are pushed on the populace, when they can force people to take drugs they neither want or in truth need. When they are in close buddy buddy chats with the financiers, they control the food and home products we can access. well Big Brother and social control is it! and yes, i have heard a few others say exactly the same thing about needing to kill off /allow to die through neglect? a large percentage of the worlds populace. Sad thing is so many other countries are linked and following USA and their lousy methods. Either through knowing choice or by the leverage 'Free trade" and the compacts signed years back, that had some nasty hidden facets. Codex, the oslo agreements etc are all a whole lot uglier than many of us realise. Hussein and all the other Nutters at least are upfront and open about their plans, the real bastards are the ones that deny harm, say it is for our own good, or that of our country, and proceed to more damage than is recognised until it is too late. The medical/vacc plans in the new Bailout are VERY dodgy. and it has been passed without any time to allow full consideration, under the guise of financial emergency. read it and worry!

In 2005 I had a stroke and developed diabetes, I'm a disabled vet and it took them several months before they decided that I needed a glucose meter, they also made a appointment to see my primary care physician, I had started using my daughters meter and did a lot of research on diabetes, I found out that the Chinese treat it with Royal Jelly, so I had been taking 2 120mg caps 3 times a day for some time, when I was given the order that I was to start using insulin i refused, and asked why I would want to destroy my liver if there was a natural treatment that would do the same thing,I've been on the treatment eversince, but at a much reduced level, yes a good diet, and I can even have candy from time to time, just my story about the natural alternative

I hear about Royal Jelly all the time in tv commercials here in Japan! It's used mostly as a supplement for beautiful skin and feeing young and healthy. It's actually sold by pretty big companies here, so it seems to be a big money maker. And the capsules have many more times the power than the Royal Jelly you are taking. One company I found is 650 mg caps 2 times a day, another company reccomends a total of 1800mg a day, but mostly aimed at women 40 and above for healthy skin and overall health.

I love when Mercola is posting about HFCS, vaccines, mercury, Monsanto, and those types of things. The problem with this post is that a cure for diabetes has existed since the 1920s that never gets mentioned. Dr Max Gerson was curing cancer, diabetes, and any other known disease with the Gerson Therapy. It is primarily eating a raw organic diet, vegetable juices and coffee enemas. One of my best friends cured his own cancer with the Gerson Therapy. I cured my own diabetic condition with the Gerson Therapy, so did my wife. That's not all it cured either. My wife had severe PMDD, but that is gone now as well. I had a pressure in my stomach for nearly a decade, but that is gone now as well. Like Charlotte Gerson says, "you can't have one part of the body cure itself and another part still have a disease, when the body heals it heals". It all comes down to proper nutrition and detoxification. Simple.

I know many of you think drug companies are evil, then why do you EXPECT them to fund some stem cell research, even if it may be promising.
Its a business, if it has marketability, then I'm sure private investors would be intersted, and also government grants.
I don't see why the pharma's should be expected to fund anything just if it may be the perceived benifit of humanity.

You are absolutely correct Squarepusher. What's amazing is not that the drug companies are bottom-line oriented, but that people actually expect these companies to make them healthy, when healthy people are the last thing they want.
The fact they have abandoned the antibiotic business, leaving it to small, poorly funded companies, should be all the evidence needed to know that curing disease is the last thing they are about.
Most people still don't grasp our society has degraded to the point that it's normal American behavior to sacrifice the health and very lives of thousands of people so one can live in a bigger house. But that's where we are. The drug companies are just a vivid example of how evil our society has become, due to the nature of their business. But just look at the financial industry, auto industry, agribusiness, energy, physicians - none of them have any problem at all sacrificing the greater good of their fellow citizens to make a few extra bucks.

Some things should be above profit; however, we learn in 'school' that profit is king and that is the way of the world, never realizing that THAT way of the world was created by some, and the few benefit.
Pharma labs have the facilities, that is why they are approached. You are right, though, they shouldn't be involved anyway, because everything they touch gets tainted and used against us or is shut down because there is no profit, just like the many free energy devices that we know of--and every other industry. If you look at the players, they are all the same group.
Private investors is not needed, but citizens that care about others is needed. Not everything--outside the illusion, of course--should have to generate a profit. I would like to see many healthy people, as I would like to be and cannot understand the sickness these individuals that operate these companies have. I must be better than you; I must be more healthy than you; I must have more than you... for what? They are misguided and, I would say, have been trained to be hateful and cruel.
If you don't believe me, then do some serious research into who started the ADA, AMA, big Pharma, forced schooling etc., and you will see the same names mentioned. I have a paper, can't find it now, that stated that the largest 200 corps in the world had just over 250 different board members--talk about inbreed thought.

It is true, I do not believe that big pharma's should be coerced into funding research for "natural" medicine. But, wouldn't it be a huge gesture of good will on their part to do so? Raw, natural, whole foods, etc., are not patentable, therefore big pharma never takes an interest in them. I wish there was some small company out there who would take an interest in producing high quality, natural medicines (like bio-identical hormones for women). In my mind, a small business who was more interested in promoting human health than big profits would probably make big profits anyway. Just my 3 cents (inflation). Personally, I think (as a former paralegal, now disabled) that big pharma and medical doctors have a conflict of interest when it comes to continuing education seminars...that are sponsored by big pharma and required for license renewal for MDs. Natural medicine articles reporting on natural medicine studies are routinely rejected by industry journals (JAMA for example). Such reports would have a detrimental effect on big pharma's bottom line, and we wouldn't want to risk the ire of our biggest journal advertisers (tongue in cheek). It makes me sick and mad all at the same time. Shoot! Now the secret is out, I have no respect for big pharma's or for their bottom line.

What sickens me most about this world of illusion is the manipulation and deceit by those in power. Billy Boy Gates gives how many millions to drug pusher pharma to create vaccines to 'cure' people (not actually cure them, of course)? Warren Buffet put Billy in charge of $30B for charity... okay, figure this:
If a lab costs $400M to set up, then you set aside $1B for operating expenses--money will be gaining interest, but if not, it wouldn't matter--you could supply many diabetics, including myself, with a cure, or at least a temporary cure (meaning if you had to do it every few years, okay).
Scam and sorry SOBs rule the world. Seriously, look at the Billionaires in this world, their money coming from us in large part, and see what they have done. BG is touted as a Philanthropist, but it is time to step up and help people outside the round table they sit at. It is their responsibility of life? No. But don't say you are interested in helping whey all your interest is in funding your partners genetic research firm for pharma and the like. Do something!
We all know, or at least those that research, that Stanford is home of Eugenics, so do you really believe they would try to raise funds? Some may, perhaps, but in large, I would say no, they wouldn't try to get funding for a non-profit lab curing people.

when i read this article I cried. My mom has had type 1 diabetes since she was a kid and she does not know what its like to live a normal life. She always has to check her blood sugar and take her insulin shots. Sometimes her sugars are low and she has to eat something even tho she feels like crud and the very smell of food is even detestable. There are no telling how many times I have walked into the house and found her on the floor JUST IN TIME to save her life. When I call her house and she doesn't answer her phone my heart pounds out of my chest. There are no words to describe how I feel for everyone out there that is effected by this disease.

My 9 yr old daughter has been a Type 1 diabetic since she was 5 years old. We have high hopes for stem-cell research, but realise that pharmaceutical companies will not have an invested interest in finding or funding this sort of cure.Having said that, the types of insulin treatment available for diabetics today is vastly different from that of 10 or 20 years ago - no boiling up stainless steel syringes etc. There are two excellent websites I can recommend for diabetics in addition to Dr. Mercola - Dr. Richard Bernstein www.diabetes-book.com and www.dsolve.com

Do I detect a hint of disdain for type II diabetics in Mercola's comments? Probably, all judgment aside, we are deserving of a go with stem cells as well.

A la mer, it's not a question of judgment. Stem cell therapy would be pointless for Type 2 diabetics since their pancreas still functions normally; the problem is at the cellular level. The application of stem cells could benefit the Type 1 diabetic, whose pancreas has lost the ability to make insulin.

What about the recent documentary "Raw for 30 days?" 6 diabetics cure themselves by eating raw vegan food for 30 days at a treatment center run by Gabriel Cousens at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center. Check it out at http://www.Rawfor30days.com Not sure why Dr.Mercola hasn't mentioned this?? I love & respect ya Doc so I believe there must be a reason.

The reason is that a number of you are confusing type I and type II diabetes. Type II is almost completely preventable and curable by lifestyle/nutrition choices, Nothing is more effective, Type I Diabetics, totally different, no cure, just substituting injections for the insulin that isn't there. A true cure would be a modern medical miracle. Blogs are interesting, but definitely not an intellectual forum.

"The sad thing about type 1 diabetes is that it now appears nearly completely preventable. New research suggests if a pregnant woman has optimal vitamin D levels during her pregnancy and then maintains them in her baby once delivered, this should radically reduce if not virtually eliminate type 1 diabetes." "nearly completely" These are mutually exclusive?? If you're going to claim type 1 diabetes is completely preventable, please report the scientific studies that back this up about the pregnant mother not having enough vitamin D!!! This is of upmost importance to all the mothers of people having type 1 diabetes or those that would like to prevent this. How irresponsible!

Results documented in THE CHINA STUDY by T. Colin Campbell, page 187 ff, point to some infants' reaction to cow's milk early in life as a possible cause of Type 1 diabetes. A child weaned too soon onto cow's milk may produce undigested proteins so similar to pancreas cells that the immune system confounds the two and attacks the pancreas as if it were a foreign invader. His evidence is very persuasive. He also shows that while Type ! diabetes is indeed incurable, a plant-based diet can dramatically reduce the need for insulin. The China Study is possibly the most comprehensive long-term nutritional study ever conducted.

I'm part of an international type 1 support group. I know moms of type 1 kids who breastfed (or bottle fed - soy or otherwise) their kids here in the U.S. not weaned too soon onto cow's milk. ("nearly completely preventable", right)

"Ryke Geerd Hamer - Dr. Hamer's "German New Medicine" (GNM), operates under the premise that every disease originates from an unexpected shock experience, and that all disease can be cured by resolving these underlying emotional traumas. Despite a 95 percent success rate, Dr. Hamer has spent time in prison for refusing to disavow his medical findings and stop treating his patients with his unorthodox techniques, and is currently living in exile, seeking asylum from persecution." I've felt this all along. In 1974, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Barry Ashbee was struck in the eye with a puck during their semi-final play-off round against the New York Rangers. He was blinded in one eye and retired. Three years later, he was diagnosed with leukemia, and died three weeks later. The Flyers retired his jersey, have an award in his name. Each year they have a carnival for cancer research in his name.

Excellent comments. I especially appreciate your insights on adult stem cells, a potential problem with them as a patient advances in age, and someone finding a solution. I have known for some time that adult stem cells have been successful in clinical development, whereas embryonic stem cells have not been. The key sticking point with most people is their mistaken belief that adult stem cells are not even pluripotent, much less totipotent. In fact, adult stem cells *are* pluripotent and some investigators have found ways to *make* them totipotent. That aside, it's good to keep those tips coming on prevention. I believe that a time will shortly come in which we all will be placed on waitlists for conventional treatment. The best thing we can do, therefore, is to obviate it. They're learning that lesson right now in the UK and elsewhere in the Commonwealth, and our fellow countrymen will have to learn it here, too. And we're the ones to educate them.

I am a Type 1 diabetic and have been for 17 years. I am now on an insulin pump. Obviously this article and some of the comments that follow are intriguing to me. Does anyone or Dr. Mercola, if you are reading this, know of ANYONE who is doing these treatments? I am utterly tired of being diabetic. I ate raw foods for years, and while it was all good, the only thing it did was lower my needs for insulin. And while that is good, that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a CURE. I still eat raw foods but not exclusively.

In 2006 two researchers in Toronto ( Dr. Hans Dosch and Dr. Michael Salter) theorized that faulty pancreatic pain neurons were to blame for Type 1 Diabetes. www.naturalnews.com/021345.html in part: "Dosch had observed in previous research that islet cells in diabetics were surrounded by an "enormous" number of pain nerves that signaled the brain that the pancreatic tissue was damaged. To test their theory, Dosch and Salter injected capsaicin into mice that had Type 1 diabetes, to kill the animals' pancreatic pain nerves. The researchers said they were stunned to discover that the injected mice's islet cells began producing insulin normally almost immediately. "I couldn't believe it," Salter said. "Mice with diabetes suddenly didn't have diabetes anymore." Dosch and Salter discovered on further research that the pancreatic nerve cells were a vital part of the functioning of islet cells, by secreting neuropeptides that tell the islets to release insulin. The nerves weren't secreting enough neuropeptides, causing a "vicious cycle" of stress on the islets. The researchers then injected the neuropeptide -- dubbed "substance P" -- into the pancreases of the diabetic mice. The mice's islet inflammation rapidly cleared up, and the animals' diabetes disappeared. According to Dosch and Salter, some mice have remained "cured" for up to four months with a single injection." How can this kind of information along with the stem cell treatment be blatantly ignored? Where and to whom do we turn for help? I am thoroughly saddened by the corrupt parasites who would rather pocket a fortune from the suffering of those with Type 1 diabetes than see the cure.

I found this documentary on reversing diabetes through food and lifestyle very interesting. It follows six people through the 30 day program. http://wideeyecinema.com/?p=689

This is why I love Dr. Mercola, because it's more about doing things efficiently and not just getting rich off of someone elses pain.

If you want to hear a good talk about the "Cure Conspiracy" go to http://breakthroughcoaching.tv/preview/ and watch tab #3, Carlon Colker, M.D., then go see a reputable chiropractor to add another component to truly help your body to cure diseases. You can also google chiropractic and blood pressure to see another study done by medical doctors at Chicago School of Medicine teaming up with chiropractors that significantly lowered blood pressures. It made the news about a day.

There is a cure for Type II Diabetes, and it doesn't involve changing lifestyles or exercise. I learned it from a medical researcher, and it's the reason that many children are now getting "age onset diabetes" when they are toddlers. It's because our world has been "processed". Our wheat flour and sugar used to have plenty of chromium, and other minerals and vitamins, which have been milled out of them since the early 1900's, contrary to FDA regulations, which were upheld by the supreme court, and not enforced since then. So, it's more than big pharma who are out to "get" us, big food is also to blame. I've lost my aunts and my beloved Tibetan teacher because of this age onset diabetes, and it was also getting me down. And, my roommate was diagnosed with it 4 years ago, yet, his fasting blood sugar just a month ago, showed no sign of diabetes. If you have been diagnosed with Type II diabetes, then begin immediately to take a food based chromium. The two brands I know are Innate Response and New Chapter (you can get this one at the healthfood store). Take it 5 or 6 times a day, one with each meal, one with your snack, and one on arising, and one on sleeping (to build up your reserves). You see, after several generations of moms deficient in this mineral, the children born in the last 10 years, many of them, are deficient in chromium, and they run out by the time they are toddlers. The only reason exercise helps Type II's is that it gets the glucose out of the blood (so your body doesn't keep ringing the insulin alarm), it burns it for fuel. But, the real life saver is getting the chromium to carry the glucose into the cell so that ATP can be made. That's why diabetics are so tired, they aren't making ATP.

I am very interestedin all information on diabetes. Whether type 1 or type 11. Plus very interested in stem cell treatments. I saw the other week on the news how a woman needed a esphosphegus transplant so the doctors took her own stemcells and grew skin arountf the rpeacement before transplanting it into ther. It worked and she does not have to take rejection drugs. This is very promising. So I know that at least someone doing research on adult stem cell and using it in the medical field. I do agreee that raw food or natural cures are the way to go. However I have a real problem with even buying vitamins or all the natural cures in health food stores. Do you not think that the producers of these things are not also getting rich?? The amount of vitmins being sold on todays market. Even to having to buy "food based chromium" and take it 4 or 5 times a day . That costs money that many cannot afford. Just like all the products on Dr. Mercola's website. Sound very good. But I can't afford to buy them. So again my health is all based on money????Based on someone getting rich ! I want to know of "real food based cures". For instance what food have natural chromium in them. What food interact with one another for real bennifits. No one should have to put out thousands of dollars a month extra on top of their grocery bill in order to be healthy. Not to "health food stores" or the producers of vitamins or anyone else. If someone is truly interested in a person's health, then they will share information without money being involved into buy something "for the cure",, natural or not.

Savannahrose, a free way to get chromium is to eat burdock or dandelion roots that you dig up yourself. Kelp and stinging nettle leaves are very high in chromium. Burdock and dandelion also help stabilize blood sugar levels. Even before the economy went down the tubes, I've tried to influence people I know to eat their weeds. Very few do (unless they're eating at my house), but maybe when they actually run out of money for food, the wild edibles will be more popular.
