[Diabetes-talk] A question about travel and waste disposal

Kijuana:

Don't worry about it. With tissues, it's no different than if a kid had
a nosebleed and had to use tissues; you just throw them away in the
usual waste receptacles. Technically, only the strips and lancets are
defined as medical waste. I never throw away lancets because they're too
likely to stick some unwary garbage cleanup person. But, if the truth be
told, there have been occasions when I forgot to bring a receptacle when
I quietly threw a test strip iin the wastebasket. Not kosher, however,
and I try to remember to bring a container.

But I wouldn't worry about the tissues.

I use little round cotton disks that one gets at the grocery store.
They're great and they're thick enough that one can get several uses out
of each one; I keep one in my meter case. I'm told that they eventually
begin to look pretty gory, though; my social downfall is that I don't
give a darn! Call me Rett Butler! <g>

Subject: [Diabetes-talk] A question about travel and waste disposal

Hi, all. :) I'm about to take a couple of train trips that will last
just over 25 hours each. I will have to test before at least two meals
during that time. I know I can bring a bottle for the needles and
strips, but if I'd need to get rid of the tissues, are there rules on
trains/plain/etc about disposal of such things? I hope all of you have
had a great weekend.
Hugs,
Kijuana
