[Diabetes-talk] Comments RE: Solo Meter

Good Morning Gang:

Sorry this took so long. I had to weigh very carefully my comments/posting
here this morning.

On Monday evening, an ADS rep delivered the shoes I had ordered to me.
After trying them on and liking them, (Sure beat the tar out of the "shit
Kickers" I used to have!" I hope you folks can forgive the "farming"
vernacular. My mother used to call them "Shit Kickers." Ya know those
old-boat-type boots that come up just barely above the ankles? At any rate,
these shoes are real nice! Bill couldn't get over 'em. Nice black,
professional looking, leather, nice tread on the bottoms. And, they
actually resemble S H O E S!! Holy Buckets!! Light and comfy too!!

Anyway, in further conversation with this rep, I said to him, ya know, I'd
like to get my hands on one of those solo meters. Gotta check everything
out ya know. After all, I consider myself to be a sort of "watch dog" ya
know--for diagbetics as well as competition. His next question was, So,
how'd ya ever find out about that? It's only been out barely two weeks. I
said, I just wanna see it sometime. "ya wanna see one now?" Got one?
Really?" "I'll have to run out to my car and get it." "Bring it on!"

First thing I observed in checking it out was the case. The thing is kind
of boxy and institutional looking. However, in it's defense, other than
that, the design is absolutely phantabulous!! Everything snaps securely
into place. The meter, lancing device, control solution, alternative-site
testing cap, strips, and all. There's even a space beneath the meter for
extra clean lancetts. Everything fits very nice and snug.

As for the meter itself, I would not accuse them of steeling the PV
technology. This works on a similar premise. But the voice is entirely
different. It has before/after-meal average settings, the buttons do not
depress so easily that it sounds like you have a talking purse, book bag, or
briefcase. And yes, it is completely accessible. It is very slightly
thinner than the PV as well and also uses tripple-A's. It does appear to be
very easy to set and user friendly. As for its accuracy, however, I haven't
heard about how it tests with lab testing. But then I hadn't heard that
about the PV either. I, myself have never had any trouble with the PV until
I had to replace mine just last week after having it about two and a half
years. Of course, the guy asked me if I wanted to switch over? I simply
said to him, "You're forgetting who I work for? I take things like loyalty
and ethics very seriously. I'm forever accused of wearing my heart on my
sleeve. I actually like both meters and at this point, I'd say, it's one's
choice depending on what one wants and how many of the features on it one
would have use for. The Solo does have a few features that the PV does not.
I would not accuse these folks of steeling anything from anyone. I see it
as honest competition. These folks have taken many of our suggestions to
heart and I'd like to commend them for that. My very biggest issue with PV
is their not-so-user-friendly software. Neither my husband nor I have been
able to figure it out in three years. I simply take my meter into my doctor
and he just scroles through it and does the A1C anyway. I'm never without a
meter anyway so I figure what's the big deal? I'm not out to find fault
with anyone here--simply chalk it up to, matter of preference. Nothing
more, nothing less. Have a great day gang!
