[Diabetes-talk] A question and message here

Dar:

I can't answer your shoe question as I don't use diabetic shoes. However, if
a shoe doesn't feel right, there's something wrong.

AS for the meter, it's called the Solo V2. I'll speak of it a bit more in a
moment but I have a question for you: is your friend using his/her lancet
device set to maximum penetration? If not, he/she should try this as it is
my experience, no matter what meter one uses, this is the only truly
dependble method to ensure enough blood on the strip. In my experience, when
one has consistent trouble with the Prodigy Voice and insufficient blood,
the lancet isn't set on max. In short, I don't believe all the hype about
tiny blood samples because the drop of blood must bead to be sucked up
properly by the strip and for a blind person, it is my experience that this
requires a larger blood sample to work well. To be blunt, if the lancet
doesn't sting, it isn't going deep enough. (grin)

But back to the Solo V2. Advanced Diabetic Solutions out of Atlanta sells
it. Cheryl Echevarria has given you the phone number and web address for
this company.

My limited tests tell me that it is, indeed, somewhat less likely than the
Prodigy Voice to give an inaccurate reading due to too little blood in that
it either just doesn't function or gives an error if there is insufficient
blood on the strip.

However, there are two "features" to the Solo V2 that, in my estimation, are
serious drawbacks and which are a show-stopper for me. First, there is no
"SAY DISPLAY" key that will allow one to hear whatever is on the display as
many times as one wishes. Second, both when testing and when reviewing
memory, the time of the readings isn't spoken. When reviewing memory, one
hears the date of the readings but not the time of day. If, as one should,
one is writing one's readings down, this makes review of readings virtually
meaningless. I can't quite see how this drawback slipped through the testing
process. The time *does* show up on the display but not in the audio.

In other words, we still don't have a "perfect" meter in my view. But if
your friend wants the Solo V2, he/she should contact Advanced Diabetic
Solutions.
