It all depends on a few things and if you have a good supplier.

Just got off the phone with Medicare.

Unless the meter cannot be fixed or replaces within 5 years, then Medicare will pay for a new meter. But the side note is that Mr. Jones from Medicare told me is that the meters now cannot be fixed or replaced then they will pay for one every year.

Also if you have not gotten an accessible meter. Not only do you need a prescription from your doctor for the one that you want and not that the doctor wants you to have, remember doctors do get paid for selling drugs and equipment. You also have to have proof of blindness, which you doctor should know this. Before Medicare will even pay for an accessible meter.

Being a medical insurance specialist, I cannot stress this part enough. Your doctor is your doctor, but at the same time if they are telling you that Medicare wont pay for it which I have heard from a prior doctor or mine, which that is why he is my prior doctor, or the other thing they say they wont pay for that meter.

Well guess who pays your doctor first over all the insurance companies Medicare, who pays the doctors the most money for their services Medicare. Not the HMOs, and if you said Medicaid, yeah right, I tried to get Medicaid to pay my doctors when I worked, took years and they pay pennies on the dollar.

So this is direct from Medicare about replacement meters, plus if you have a good supplier like ADS then you don't need to worry.
