[Diabetes-talk] Solo V2 Announcement

Sounds like a soap box to me.

When we were studying the Prodigy Voice we have to have the test results by a certain time to give the results to the NFB for the A+ Program, now that ADS contact Vincent and the New Jersey Affiliate to try this new device. We are now saying that nope we need more testing on it.

I believe that Vincent and many others like myself who have been diabetic 20+ years might know how to use a meter and to determine if it is good or not.

Now I am not saying I am switching to anything until I use it enough and try out all the buttons and connections etc. But from what I understand from ADS that the testing has been going on awhile.

I mean unless NFB or DAN has some kind of contract we don't know about as members with only DDI and the Prodigy Machine. I realize we have the NFB name attached to the Prodigy Voice Meter, but at the same time we cannot allow other companies out there to approach us to try new items.

My own opinionated thoughts here.

  Vincent:

  (1) Before you wax too sanguine about the new meter's ability to accurately
detect low blood, I think at least four tests per day for at least three
months are required to be sure. It's one of the things that gripes me about
a lot of medical reporting these days; the testing isn't nearly rigorous
enough for my taste. So while I am not contradicting you, I'm saying that
perhaps all of us should "wait and see".

  (2) What's this jazz about three minutes not being enough time for a blind
person to "prepare the test"? I say not testing within thirty seconds
jeopardizes your test result. Moreover, I consider advocating a longer time
before auto-shut-off denigrates our abilities as blind persons! If I can't
get a test result within a minute, methinks I ought to do some serious
  practicing with a diabetes educator!

  Just one opinionated curmudgeon's view.
