First, welcome to our list. I'm the list moderator, Mike Freeman. I'm the
President of NFB"s diabetes Action Network; I saw your subscription message
to the list as well as yur "hello".
Partly what you're experiencing is the travail of a newly-diagnosed
diabetic. I dare dsay everyone on this list (present company included)
experienced quite a bit of frustration learning to get that drop of blood
and, more importantly, to place it on the strip or, as I do, place the end
of the strip with the knotch on the blood drop. AS I said to you on the
ACB-Diabetics list, part of the problem is that blood smears easily. I
recommend holding the finger flat once you've punctured it so that the blood
drop will have a chance to bead up. AS I also advocate, get more blood than
you need. To my way of thinking, all that jive about no pain finger-sticks
is hogwash; if it doesn't sting, you're not doing it right, to my way of
thinking. (big grin)
The lancet device with the cap is, I think, one where you manually stick
yourself as opposed to pushing the button of a spring-loaded lancet device.
I never saw the point of such lancets but there are those who favor them.
I've never tried the laser lancet device but would be interested in it, if
only to play with a new dadget. The hipe is that it causes less pain and
makes a cleaner puncture. But I figure I can endure a heck of a lot of
finger-sticks for the four centabucsk it cots. (grin)
Again, welcome to our list.
