equipment and/or my knowledge of test strip shelf life? *GRIN*

I doubt it.  The human body is fickle; sometimes we don't know the reasons
bg readings depart from what we expect. Your strips are probably just fine.
In any case, you're the first person I've known who complained about lower
numbers.  Don't panic; rejoice!
